Something is seriously wrong with combat/performance this patch

    Why do I always get performance problems after about a hour or 2 fps just drops like it is eating up all the memory over time, after a restart its fine again.

    Man, this ain't even a pvp-only thing. Just clobbering some mobs while hunting skyshards during off-hours you'll see all of this stuff. I recently had a situation where I counted five failed skills less than twenty seconds of combat, along with invalid targets and skill ranges PLUS skills firing out of order. And again, this was all in PvE where fifty percent of the fight is more-or-less deterministic.

    When you say this, do you mean using your own attack ability your toon seems to get snared in place to the ground, and you have to roll dodge to break it?

    Because I've been experiencing that A LOT. My NB spamable is Surprise Attack, and I swear I've been getting snared in place when I use it. I first started noticing it in Cyro, but since there is so much CCing going on I ignored it. Started paying more attention when I was flipping rss solo. It happened then, too. Told myself maybe the guards have mechanics I never noticed or never worked til now.


    I tested it in PvE land, and it happens there, too. A LOT. With adds that have never snared me before. And shouldn't be snaring me when I attack with my own abilities before they even aggro.

    Basically. If you look at my comment above, there is a link to a clip of it happening to me today. You'll go to cast an ability, and your character will just lock in place as if you got rooted.

    As I mentioned, there was a bug very similar to this with polar/arctic wind years ago, which they fixed. Assuming this isn't some new server lag of some sort, it seems like it could be the exact same issue.

    That rooted bug thing is very old. I've been away for a while and I remember seeing it all of the time with certain specific skills even a couple years ago. The warden vines caused it every time it was cast while you were moving. I haven't seen it myself in the last couple of weeks but it's pretty concerning if it's only gotten more prevalent since then.

    Happens on training dummy parses as well. It ain't PVP related.

    I haven't noticed it in PvP (mostly because my performance in Cyrodiil is always a little bit terrible, so I didn't really notice a difference so far) but it's been really noticeable in PvE for me. I've been in Endless Archive for hours yesterday, and the amount of times my skills will just not go off at all is incredible. And most of those times, I can see the first half of the animation just fine, but the skill just never hits, for no discernible reason. (including for skills that don't require a target, like Sap Essence, for instance) Had it so often where my character would raise their arms for the Merciless Resolve bow proc and then... absolutely nothing follows. So it's definitely no input error. Blocking only works sometimes, too, and dodge rolls are way mistimed.

    The thing I see the most is in combination with bar swaps, so when casting a skill, bar swapping, and casting another skill, that second skill will never reliably actually go off, and I have to slow down the casting considerably if I want to make sure the skill actually went off. Thought it was just me for the longest time, but the longer this has been going on, the more do I think there's something wonky this patch.

    I have the same experience - but it's most noticeable on my mag/sorc. That and they have changed something in the targeting system....

    This explains a lot. I thought I was going crazy. I’ve been parsing lately and sometimes my skills won’t fire, I just stand there. I thought my controller was dying but I tested it in another game and it’s fine.

    What’s most depressing is that this is the prevailing direction of ESO the past 2 years: basic gameplay continues to get more buggy and less reliable with each update.

    There are more bugs today than at any time prior, and there will be more bugs in 6 months than there are now.

    It’s a shame. The game had so much promise.

    I hold out hope that they'll fix this as it's a core issue, the game is literally unplayable if they don't and they would severely impact numbers imo.

    What I don't hold out hope for is everyone in here, as there is a myriad of issues and it's not clear that they're all the same. What is clear is that people are having combat related issues, whether that be skills not casting, LA weaving, being rooted or other odd bugs.

    I do think the Devs seem to be paying attention to some of the gameplay related issues more recently, apart from the combat bug which is routinely ignored.

    Let's just keep the thread going and keep making noise about it until it is fixed. I haven't checked since the maintenance so who knows, maybe it's fixed (probably a bit too hopefully but you never know lol).

    Yesterday in bgs half my spell casts weren't going off. Talked to other people and they said the same thing.

    Omg all of this! Dodge roll literally doesn't seem to work at all since that last hotfix a week or 2 ago! And barswapping almost feels like it has a cast time of it's own now...

    Tonight after the patch my abilities took so long to fire that when doing a dolem for the endeavor daily, I did no damage to the boss before he died, and that was pre-firing my arcanist channel to try and compensate.

    On Xbox it’s extremely noticeable.

    When you’re playing in “Performance Mode” after a few hours the FPS starts to stutter until you go into your game settings and switch to “Fidelity Mode,” exit the menu then switch back to Performance.

    Now, I don’t know why this is, it could mean the game has a data leak and that’s worst case scenario, I really hope this gets looked into.
