Is this the biggest problem with Endless Archive - The Solo mode?

Lmao than soloing you need exactly that, a sturdy build. And sometimes you can't even have dps.
That isn't really true though. I can run solo on a pure DPS setup with just a shield as defense. Like 10K armor and around 24K health. Solo builds in other content require more DPS than defense, since you are trying to burn through mechanics rather than tank them, as much as possible. Solo builds in the archive definitely require a defensive focus if you plan on going past ARC 3. Before ARC 3, a pure DPS solo build can manage just fine.1
