EA switch puzzle

Is it me or the interface for the switches is not well implemented? I have to constantly move back and forth to find a suitable spot/angle to highlight the area(s) that a switch operates on. It was very annoying. Is there a special trick to it?

Also, it doesn't seem to work really well with low render distance, I always need to crank it up for that.

1) I just stand inside the switch and block and aim at it, works pretty reliably for me.
2) Given how long each switch lasts, you only need to memorize the first 3 (solo) or 4 (duo). Then you have enough wiggle room to just activate the rest blindly.

I don't know if I'm going crazy, but I swear that in the advanced version of this puzzle, the switches change which patches they activate after each fail. I checked the switches, wrote down the order, but after I messed it up the order changed completely. Way to overcomplicate matters.

I've seen this video. It's the part where I can make those white outlines visible is causing the issues. I cannot reliably find the spot on the switches to make those outlines appear.

What I've done is have my crosshairs on the switch. Sometimes I need to move away and back to get the switches to light up, but try getting close and looking at the switch itself.

I will try, but the interface does not seem to be reliably working.

Swapping to first person made them work pretty decently for me.
