I think the main reason for learning Nirnhoned is it allows you to craft sets which require 9 traits learned, and to get more master writs. That's why you'll find a lot of level 1 nirnhoned items sold in guild stores - they're bought by crafters to research the trait.
As for actually using it it's not necessarily any better than other traits, but can be preferred in certain situations. IMO it's usually not worth the additional cost over other traits, but I know some people think it is.

Right. so how are we still holding on to the idea that its worth 10s of thousands or 50 thousand and more than every other trait? just nuts. what perpetrates this continued gestalt of it's ever increasing value? master writs? you still need all the other 8 too...
Yes, that's exactly why I spent a few days running 7 alt characters through the Queen's Decree and Psijic's Calling quests, so that now they can all loot Psijic portals and hopefully get some more pulverised (or whole) aurbic amber.Sordidfairytale wrote: »It has it's uses, though I cannot justify the price.
Potent Nirncrux is not as rare as it's being made out to be. In an hour of farming I will get between 4 and 6 potent along with 14 or more Fortified Nirncrux. And it does not drop in an unrefined raw form, it drops ready to be applied.
Compare that to the Infused jewelry trait material, Aurbic Amber, that requires a skill line to be unlocked to gather, a rare portal to spawn rather than a normal Enchantment node, and usually spawns as unrefined material that must be refined in order to use.
For research purposes you require only 2 Aurubic Amber and 12 Potent Nirncrux. For practical application however, you may need three times the Aurbic Amber than Potent Nirncrux. More sources of Exemplary Nirnhoned weapons would help in reigning in the price for sure.
