isn't infused still better than nirnhoned? how to justify the cost of 40-60 thousand and up for one potent nirncrux just to learn a trait that i will never use because infused is waaaay better still? yah?

Knowing all traits increases your odds of getting master writs and also lets you do more master writs.

I think the main reason for learning Nirnhoned is it allows you to craft sets which require 9 traits learned, and to get more master writs. That's why you'll find a lot of level 1 nirnhoned items sold in guild stores - they're bought by crafters to research the trait.

As for actually using it it's not necessarily any better than other traits, but can be preferred in certain situations. IMO it's usually not worth the additional cost over other traits, but I know some people think it is.

    Greetings,

After further review we have decided to move this thread to a category we think is more appropriate for this topic.

    Thank you for your understanding.

Right. so how are we still holding on to the idea that its worth 10s of thousands or 50 thousand and more than every other trait? just nuts. what perpetrates this continued gestalt of it's ever increasing value? master writs? you still need all the other 8 too...

Or you learn the trait when its not really the META instead of overpaying for it if/when it does become more useful & get it now for less gold spent. Any of my friends I will just make it if they need it, unless they want 1/2 dozen then give me the nirn mat to cover costs. Ask in your guilds, I bet someone will help you out.

Because obtaining potent nirncrux is harder than other weapon trait materials. You can get it in raw form only from nodes in craglorn, where You can get other trait materials everywhere and there is limited amount of places where You can obtain nirnhoned weapons that You could decosntruct, where weapons with other traits drop everywhere. It's more desired that other traits also since it's a meta for front bar weapons in many builds. So there is shorter supply and higher demand for it which generates higher prices.

Nirn trait mat only drops in Craglorn and if I remember correctly only drops if the character has rank 9 or 10 in clothing, wood, or metal.

I don’t know about PC prices but on PS the fortified is not as expensive as potent.

I have farmed nirn for many years and the drop rate for both is very low, and fortified drops about 4 times more often than potent, which is why potent is more expensive.

The primary reason it is so expensive is the number of writ vouchers sealed writs provide when it is a required trait. I think the minimum is 40 which is usually worth 80k to 120k gold.

It has it's uses, though I cannot justify the price.

Potent Nirncrux is not as rare as it's being made out to be. In an hour of farming I will get between 4 and 6 potent along with 14 or more Fortified Nirncrux. And it does not drop in an unrefined raw form, it drops ready to be applied.

Compare that to the Infused jewelry trait material, Aurbic Amber, that requires a skill line to be unlocked to gather, a rare portal to spawn rather than a normal Enchantment node, and usually spawns as unrefined material that must be refined in order to use.

For research purposes you require only 2 Aurubic Amber and 12 Potent Nirncrux. For practical application however, you may need three times the Aurbic Amber than Potent Nirncrux. More sources of Exemplary Nirnhoned weapons would help in reigning in the price for sure.

I will note that in terms of nirnhoned being meta, most meta sets aren’t crafted and thus do not use nirncrux to create.

You still have to learn the trait in order to transmute or reconstruct items with that trait, however.

Yes, that's exactly why I spent a few days running 7 alt characters through the Queen's Decree and Psijic's Calling quests, so that now they can all loot Psijic portals and hopefully get some more pulverised (or whole) aurbic amber.
