Bank+Strong Boxes

The strong boxes may give more space but they are inefficient. Banks are far more convient so it's easy to forget whether you have something in the bank that you already have in a strongbox. That's happened to me several times. It would make more sense to merge them.

No. I don't want my item sets, companion gear, and special items showing up in my bank view. I separate them for a reason.

Yeah well you must have a good memory. I've wasted Transmute Crystals on gear I already have. They can alsways put an option to keep them seperate.

<snip>. Because since I'd have to go back and forth, check my chests before I possibly waste Transmute Stones and material is a pain in the neck.

The chest storage was deliberately made separately. The chest is a small list of items so it requires fewer resources leading to less server load and lag. If this was not an issue it would have been easier to just increase our bank limits.

I suggest using the chest storage for items that will not be regularly needed. Naming the chests to give an indication of what is being stored there also helps.

Also, it seems you use addons. There is an addon to keep track of storage. It keeps track of what is in the bag for each character, personal bank, chests, and even guild banks. It is searchable.

That solves having to remember what is in each chest or anywhere else for that matter. Works great.

I like my chests to be seperate as well, because I use them to store things I don't use often and don't want cluttering up the bank.

My solution to the OP's problem is having only 1 place where each type of item is stored, so I know where to look for it. This also means that I don't have to worry about things like deconstructing all the gear in the bank (which automatically shows in the list at crafting stations) because I know anything I want to keep is in a chest or on a character.

I was going to recommend Inventory Insight as well. It's extremely helpful if you've lost an item, but also useful for all kinds of other quick checks. When I'm logged into my crafter I can check if any of my other characters need new food without having to log into each of them. Or when I pick up a new furnishing I like I can remind myself if I've already got one spare so I can sell the new one right away.

An in-game search function would sort this out. I know there are addons that keep track of your stuff but really this should be base-game and available to everyone.

    Edit
I would say that there are very good reasons for having storage that isn't part of the bank. Accidentally desynthing something you wanted to keep would be really easy to do. Also the bank is quite cumbersome to use as it is on pc, with everything in alphabetical order and no option to sort by category.
The ability to sort your inventory to suit your playstyle is another QoL feature ZoS might want to consider offering.

A base game means to search our inventory across the account would be nice. However, I will point out that it is not likely to be as refined as the Inventory Insight addon is. The buff/debuff tracker in the base game is a great example of this. There are multiple addons to track our buffs and debuffs that are much better defined. Of course, it still gets the basics down.

    I suggested making a search function base-game
    a) because it's something I've always taken for granted in other games,
    and
    b) Because console players don't have access to addons.
Addons do so much of the heavy lifting in this game, when really a lot of the things we use them for should be in the game for everyone. Since I switched to PC, I've enjoyed much better QoL.

Oh. I understand the B part for consoles. Clearly, I did not suggest it should not happen. I was just pointing out it would not be as nice as what we have with the PC add-ons and a strong example to back my claim.

Point A is interesting as I have only seen an inventory search in one game and it was a third-party addon.

I'm the absolute opposite. I like them seperate. 1 for PvE, 1 for PvP, 1 for healing, 1 for tanking, 1 for misc gold jewels that can realistically be deconstructed now.

A tabbed menu might be helpful with all boxes seperate in it, but then what's the point when you're a close and open away from all boxes?

I think the storage boxes served more of a purpose for me before the transmute station existed and the fact that you can name them really helped me. These days they are just boxes full of 'stuff' to me.

Like others, I've wasted a lot of transmute crystals creating gear that I already had stored somewhere, but with 20 characters, 8 chests and 2 personal guild banks, I'm bound to forget what I have and where it's stored. That doesn't really bother me because I find crystals are fairly easy to replace.

    could always write it down.

I have many game notebooks full of information. I cataloged my research on three characters on paper so I'd know what gear traits to keep.

I have maps. Skill builds. You name it.

Can even make a computer document.

    I do this too.

For quick or temporary things I just write it on a bit of paper, or for PC games I use the Windows post-it notes. For stuff I want to keep I have a notebook or I use Word docs or spreadsheets.

Normally those are on the PC but I've recently started using Google Drive for console game notes, so I can get to them on my phone. Weirdly the main one I need that for is Horse Tales: Emerald Valley Ranch, which is probably the most casual game I'm playing. Most of the gameplay is simple enough, but you can keep over 100 horses, and they have realistic genetics so trying to plan breeding from memory is not easy.
