build concept: Jarlaxle Baenre

who is jarlaxle baenre? He is a drow mercenary, leader of house Bregan D’aerthe. Jarlaxle has many magical weapons, one is a bracer that produces and infinite amount of magical daggers. This build is built around Dual Wield and was inspired by the use of the skill Flying Blade. Flying blade interrupts, provides Major Brutality/Sorcery, and allows for a teleport. Alas, Jarlaxle has more than 1 magical weapon, Concealed Weapon also finds its way onto the build. Jarlaxle has a magical drow cloak that deflects damage, a “Spectral Cloak” if you will (vateshran DW). In addition he has a cloak of invisibility. You can modify this build to include Killer’s Blade, or Impale. However, with Merciless Resolve and Soul Harvest, execute may not be needed.

FOR ROLE PLAY REASONS: you can go dark elf. you can also use another set besides clever alchemist with this build. I however build as argonian for role play reasons, and am adapting the style of Jarlaxle.

I like to use jewels of misrule, or tristat food.
no vamp, but you could do it. my CP is not enough to mitigate fire damage well
thief mundus, or shadow depending on crit. steed could be a choice if u like to go zoom.

gear
5 Clever alchemist (body)
5 rally (Back bar) Ice
2 perfected vateshran daggers (front bar)
1 torc of tonal constancy
1 baron thirsk /magma incarnate (mag and stam regen)

i recommend focus on medium armor. sustain will not be so much a problem if you do run clever alchemist on argonian with potion cost reduce. if you choose another set, you will need to manage your resources more carefully and choose different glyphs for your jewelry accordingly. Depending on how you want to run the build, I would run 1 light, at least 1 heavy or all 3 big (heads chest legs) in heavy, and the rest in medium. this is going to give you bonus crit damage which you will need.

Jarlaxle is known for his cloak of invisibility. I find that in cyrodiil, invisibility is easily overcome by a detect potion. While Jarlaxle is known for his elusiveness, we will focus on using Dark Cloak for this build. If you want to use Shadowy Disguise that will also work well for this build.

Bar 1 - Soul harvest
more ulti gen is why we pick this, and defile. the stun in incap is nice, if you prefer. this build should be suitable for ganking style gameplay. the sustain from Reave can be helpful in incap, if you choose that instead. With Soul Harvest bonus, killing someone and drinking a potion will be enough ultimate to use it again.
ability
1 Merciless Resolve- be sure to light attack weave, this is easily the best damage ability. Be careful for reflecting it on yourself it is a projectile. And be sure to be in range for the heal. Great finisher if you arent using an execute.
2 Concealed Weapon- gives major expedition and Major Beserk when used under the effects of major expedition. If you are using invis cloak, this Beserk will also be up. Flanked targets get off balanced, then wind up a heavy attack and blast em with Merciless Resolve as they are knocked to the ground. This build relies on off balance and heavy attack for CC.
3 Flying Blade - also puts enemies off balance if you interrupt them with it. AMAZING for ranged interrupts. I used to use crushing shock on my back bar, but this allows for a teleport follow up. No more sorcs streaking and casting conversion infinite times. No no no! Templars, arcanists. Caster nerds of all kinds get rekt. But wait theres more! It also applies buffs. Hell yea. Damage is not super high, but if the enemy is knocked down DW passives will increase damage. Really for utility than anything
4 Quick Cloak- we dont want to spam this because we focus on magicka abilities, but it is a great way to manage Torc and dump stamina. This will activate Spectral Cloak, which will boost damage and mitigate damage. Major evasion is also important for surviving ultimate dumps
5 Impale - this is kind of a flex slot, you could put leeching strikes or crippling grasp or Radiant Light. I think impale is cool. It is a ranged ability though so it has drawbacks. Kilers blade is cheap stamina wise, but i have too many stam abilities already to go that route with torc management.

Backbar- Ice Comet
I had been using Soul Tether which is good but i HATE the cast time its way too long I’d rather ulti> barswap > stabbin time. You could do Eye of the Storm or Undo (you’re already too mobile). Sometimes Ill put Veil of Blades for a Domination of Crazy King BG. I picked Comet because its an AOE stun. If you go vamp, I really like the vampire form ultimate as well.
Abilities
1 Race Against Time- Quick Cloak and RAT give major expedition, which is important for keeping Beserk up on Concealed Weapon. It also frees from immobilizes and snares, and gives minor force. With RAT and conceal, you will be prettttty speedy and slippery. This is why I felt that Invisibility was not needed for this build as there is extreme mobility even with no swift jewelry
2 dark cloak - minor protection with spectral cloak is going to be a flat 10% damage mitigation, including a flat 6% damage increase. with major beserk that 16% bonus. sheesh.
3 vigor - minor resolve what whaaat
4 healthy offering - minor offering what whaaaat
5 elemental susceptibility - a free debuff what whaaat. I’ve gotten plenty of KBs from burning status effect after I die. This ability is amazing and its free! We use ice staff to dump magicka while blocking. You could consider other backbar options, HOWEVER, you need breach still.

im currently farming vateshran :C but SERBERS are down :C so thats my build concept i think it will be good 🙂 happy hunting gamers

I loved reading about Drizzt. Those were some awesome books. My favorite character was Artemis Entreri (I'm a sucker for a good villain,) but Jarlaxle was definitely awesome and my 2nd favorite character.

Very cool that you themed your character after him-- and yes it sounds like a pretty good build.

omg patch update so im on the forums! updating this build

    gear
    5 Clever alchemist (body)
5 rally (Back bar) Ice (potion speed glyphs +infused)
2 perfected vateshran daggers (front bar)
    1 torc of tonal constancy
1 baron thirsk /magma incarnate (mag and stam regen)

    +2 balorghs

im just a silly billy and I realized i can just drop torc. Definitely use Jewels of Misrule or Orzoga's for the regen here. Potions provide enough sustain.

Bar 1 - ultimate Soul Tether. Soul Harvest or Incapacitating strike are great options too. Thrive in Chaos is also good! I like Thrive bc no cast time. damage buff is awesome in multiple target situation.
1 merciless 2 concealed 3 flying dagger 4 quick cloak 5 race against time - RAT is moved to frontbar for better conceal management aka the zoomies

bar 2 - Veil of Blades - veil was taken partially for RP but also for major protection. Major and Minor prot, with vateshran buff is gonna give 21% dmg reduce, including evasion, 41% against aoe attacks. Pretty nice for holding the point. you could do shooting star, undo, eye of the storm is also not bad!
1 elemental susceptibility 2 vigor 3 dark cloak 4 healthy offering 5 FLEX shades, fear, siphoning strikes
for the flex sot, i go with Shades for RP (not teleporting shade) im already way mobile so teleporting shade is often out of range. the other shade also stays on target better, but you may need to bind control pet. shades also gives minor maim reducing damage by 5% (omg a 26% damage reduction you say and 46% in from aoe?) Fear is good, but it will give CC immunity making it hard to land a kill sometimes. Recommend using it defensively since with concealed and off balance, you can knock people to the ground or soul tether/incap/comet or whatever. too much CC is not good! If you need more sustain, or healing, siphoning strikes or leeching is great too! theres plenty of good abilities you could

SPESHUL NOTE: vateshran daggers work on either bar, as long a you cast deadly cloak on the bar equipped. therefore, you can easily do a 2h/DW build. I personally prefer to frontbar DW, but the buff is very good. you could make a destro build with back bar DW, keep all the same heals also. it would be a new build so you can figure that one out!
