What is the "target" for a weapon enchantment when using heavy attack?

As the title says just wondering if when a weapon enchantment says "Reduce Target Weapon and Spell Damage..." is the target whoever the staff is currently channeling on or will it affect everyone on the AoE finish of the heavy attack (tri focus I think)? And then, for it to apply its effect does the HA need to finish or will it apply the second you start channeling on a target?

I guess any other edge-case information around weapon enchantments and HA would appreciated as well - thanks!

i imagine it's just the character you're targeting with your crosshair and not the characters that get aoe damage

The Tri-Focus passive (and its 2h counterpart Heavy Weapons) is a passive and DOES NOT count as a heavy attack. It inherits damage modifiers from heavy attacks since the damage of the passive is based on the damage of the heavy, but you aren't actually "heavy attacking" the targets of Tri-Focus.

This means that you cannot proc enchants/sets/poisons on targets hit by Tri-Focus/Heavy Weapons, nor can you stun off-balance opponents with the passives. Enchants, off-balance stun, and proc sets based on heavy attacks will only proc on the initial/main target.

In the case of Lightning Heavies, you need to complete the full heavy attack in order for it to proc off balance stun. Note that this is only the case with lightning and resto heavies - every other weapon differentiates between a "heavy attack" and a "fully charged heavy attack". On bow, dw, sword and board, inferno, frost, and 2h, anything charged more than a light attack will count as a "Heavy Attack" (also called a medium attack) but won't count as a "Fully Charged Heavy Attack".
