Add On Request: Follow the leader.

Right now the only group member identifiers we have are the white V's over their head. While I would love a wide array of marks I'd just be happy with being able to tell who the leader is with a glance. When we PvPd in beta the leader had to put mage light on so we could find him. It is very frustrating to lose a skill slot just to inform the group that you are the leader so that they can follow you effectively.

I have no idea what sort of room one would have to make this mod but if it's limited then even changing the color of the group leaders V to red would make tons of difference.

If you have a lot of room to mod this category then I'd love to be able to mark the healers, trash mobs...the full package.

Edit: It looks like the only viable option may be to give the leader an add-on that automatically sets the leaders current location as the rally point every second. This would result in the leader showing up as the rally icon (red circle) on the compass.

or give the leader player markers that can be chosen by the leader, makes it easier to label tank etc in larger groups

Someone failed reading comprehension. OP is asking for a designator so people can see who is the lead of the group, not a /follow command.

I'd also like if the leader's text in group was a slightly different color, and that the Emperor's text in Cyrodiil zone chat was a different color. (And maybe previous Emperors could have a lighter shade of that color too.)

There are many types of lazy. For example here are two things that can be affected by laziness.

Wow. Obviously you read nothing other than the title... and even then I'm not sure how you got that idea from it.

Anyway, that sounds like a great idea. Other games have done it, and it's a feature that's heavily used and very useful. Is this something that could be done? I know nothing about making addons. >.<

There is a disadvantage to going "afk" if the leader is attacked.. you might just get gunned down. It is a good idea for a mod, saves finger pressing for the rest of the group. But I'd not want it for "just" the group leader, but rather, whoever is "pointed at" and follow them.

FYI: The addon API does not allow attaching UI elements to world objects, thus this kind of thing is not currently possible via addon.

Would that include changing the color of the leaders overhead arrow? For example right now everyone has the same white arrow over their head if they are in a group. Would it be possible to change the color of the arrow over the leaders head?

Nope. Still a world object, and thus can't be modified via the API.

Hmm, my only other thought would be an add on for the leader that would auto place a rally point on the leaders location every second. Then you could follow the leader via the compass. Would that work?

That might be possible - not sure how locked down rally markers are.

hi there, we just did our first RAID yesterday and as a GM of 30+ members i can tell how hard it was for me and my guild to do a good job just because of that missing feature.
This is a MMO, with large world PvP, how the hell do they expect raid leaders to do their job if no one can actually see them ??!!!

i'm kind of *** off there, because Bethesda forgets than they didn't release a simple RPG for solo experience... i've been leading a pvp only guild for 7 years and its the first time i encounter so much nonsense in a game, if they chose to release a mmo with pvp, they have to follow the rules !!!
Its not because your name is "elder scrolls " than you can do what you want.

WE ARE THE PLAYERS !! and some basics need to be reached for this game to be played as mmopvp.

just to clarify i'm not complainig about the pve, just the tools needed for PVP, and a "follow the leader" kind of feature HAS TO BE DONE !!! as a first step.

i'm just wondering if the devs actually tried their game before release our just lost their time listening to some elder scrolls RPG fan boys who doesn't know *** about mmo with large scale pvp.

anyway, i really hope someone up there is gonna wake up and take good decisions, we all spent money on this game so we could have a good experience, they should not forget it.

Warhammer Online had a very elegant and effective method for marking players so you could easily identify them. SWOTOR used something similar IIRC.

You shold be aware that posts containing nothing but "your idea sucks" are against the TOS (insulting and off topic).
Granted your attempt is slightly better forumlated then drowadin's. But it still has nothing to do with the topic at hand.

Regarding the OP:
There is a addon to follow the group leader. It adds arrows to the screen edges or around the crosshair wich point towards the leader. And you can even override the groups leader setting if you need too:
