New group finder horribly implemented. Can't just queue for random normal, too time consuming to Q

I just tried to use the new group finder for the first time today. It might work OK for trials, but it's horrible for anyone just trying to burn up their enlightenment by jumping into a quick random normal. It's even worse for someone who doesn't own most of the DLC's.

Today I spend 4 times longer trying to queue up than it took to run the dungeon, and burned up my ambrosia potion in the wait to queue. In addition, the crown wanted to run a DLC dungeon that I didn't own. (who wants to run a lengthy DLC dungeon when queuing for a random normal anyway?) And what's "random" when the crown selects the dungeon to be ran?

Am I missing something or is the new dungeon finder really this clunky, non random and time consuming?

I'm having flashbacks to how AWA's were implemented. Great idea, but poor implementation ruined it.

The new group finder is precisely to find people with similar interests which aren't satisfied by the old one. The old random dungeon group finder is still there if you want random dungeon xp bonus.

the group finder isn't for queueing for dungeons it's to find groups.
you can queue for dungeons with those groups but unless you communicate about what you want to do it probably won't be that.

the dungeon queue is for what you want.

Activity Finder is for random dungeons that you own.

Group Finder is for people who want to do something a bit more specific than that.

Thank you for your responses. I see what I was doing wrong now.

What I was looking for was not group finder, but just the plain old Dungeon Finder with the random normal que with the XP bonus.

This misunderstanding was all on my end.

If you want to use the group finder for dungeons you have to see what people are queueing for who have created one or create your own with what you want. once you have four people slotted to their respective roles, then you can queue for random dungeon using the dungeon finder and not have to wait.

What sucks is if you try to queue for a random normal dungeon when ecevryone is using the group finder to preform groups to their liking and that leaves fewer people available for those solo queueing for dungeon finder. In that case you will wait longer in the solo queue for the dungeon finder.

I use the group finder to preform a group that will instantly queue for a random normal once all 4 roles are filled. Normally this means asking a dd to fake tank since there are still not enough real tanks to go around. I always ttitle my groups, no speed run please as to avoid the speed runner who takes off and leaves the rest of us in the dust. (I mean, i need more plunder skulls filled with worms and dremora hats than i could ever use you know.)

Likely when event is over i will be forming groups for speed run only as there will be no more skulls to plunder and no more dremora hats to collect

In terms of precision, I'm not specifically talking about the OP (who is already very polite because he admitted his mistake) but about the general players. This topic is a great example of where so much "negative" attitude towards ESO comes from. It's a very complex game, and many of us don't even try to see if we are wrong; instead, we immediately draw conclusions that something in the game doesn't work or is too strong/weak, without even having basic information on the matter. Everyone assumes they can't be wrong, and only their opinion is correct. And when enlightenment comes, we are simply embarrassed, so we prefer to stay silent.
I'm done with this game because of ZOS pushing us into Vengeance, because they don't know how to fix Cyrodiil.

Thank you for this thread anyway. I was also confused by the new "Dungeon Finder" only to find out, thanks to your thread, that I too was looking at the wrong place.

OP, glad you were able to figure it out.

I would add that you should never consume experience buffs (scrolls, potions or food) until you enter the instance. There's no reason to do otherwise unless you're actively doing content while in the queue (quests, delves, public dungeons, etc.)

Queue times for random normals can be quite long depending on the time of day and your role (tank, healer, or DPS)
Your level also plays a big factor as well as what content you have access to.
My average wait time as DPS has been about 15-25 minutes lately, instant for tank, and less than 2-3 minutes for healer.
This is as a max level player with all available DLC.

Below level 40, you don't have access to all possible base game dungeon options: this lengthens your queue times

Below level 45, you don't have access to any DLC dungeons, even the ones that you own: this lengthens your queue times

Also, the game will not queue you for content you don't have access to (e.g. if you don't have High Isle you can't be eligible for Earthen Root Enclave or Graven Deep) so that also can lengthen your queue times as you're only queued with others who don't have that content.

Just a few pointers. Best of luck!

The new group finder is for very specific needs like "dungeon group but no arcanists because they are the worst class".

This is another nice example of why ZoS should provide some information about new things / important changes within the game. Like I wonder how many people don't even know about the new group finder yet? A little popup with some info the first time you log in after the patch would do wonders!

The announcements that pop up when you log in do mention that the changes are now live, but I agree that this is mostly skipped and does a poor job of explaining.

I would like to see something added like WoW does with major updates where there is a large popup window that goes in to detail explaining any new features or things which have changed.
