I created an Arcanist to play with, and really enjoyed the mechanics. The build/burst style, and the channeling attack, are both things I enjoy in other games. I also have to say, whoever did the visual design for them did a great job. I really love seeing the arcanists in the world, with the tentacle monster grab, and laser beam.
Sadly for me, though, I never really took to the whole "third person perspective" thing in games; I strongly prefer first person view, and play exclusively like that. Using first person view makes the Arcanist class next to unplayable for me!
The single biggest problem it causes is the crux buff: three sigils circling around me. On another player, or in third person view, they are easy to see, and communicate the state of crux very effectively. In first person view I get the occasional huge green triangle drifting across my field of vision, blocking everything else, and that is *it*. No real idea how much crux I have, and problems seeing what is going on because of it.
The channeling has a similar issue, and because it has to be aimed, the fact it mostly obscures everything in front of me makes it much harder to use than it "should" be in first person perspective. I can get away with it by targetting a bit below the floating nameplate / health of enemies, but I can't really see what is going on with them at all while I do.
Again: the visuals are amazing in third person perspective, or on others. It is just my own arcanist in first person perspective that brings these pains to the foreground.
