So new purple jewelry crafter writs are garbage?

Now, to get 192 vouchers for a similar writ before update 40, we need to spend 6 times more time. Previously, players (mostly) deleted blue jewelry crafter writs. Now (more likely) they will do the same with purple writs. This is a ridiculous.

I forget if it was 3 or 4 to get purple previously, but I know it's 4 now. So even going with 3 previously, that's 30 of today's plating, which is 7 times what you'd be doing previously, so 32x7=224.

    I don't see a problem with this.

I meant the amount of time spent to achieve approximately the same result. It's not about total number of vouchers.

Yes, it was 3, so I agree this seems reasonable. As to time spent, purple writs for blacksmith, clothing, or woodworking usually reward 5-8 vouchers each, so I’m not seeing the problem.

I believe it will all balance out between cost and availability of the new material system with the new master writs.

For instance, I received 2 new Zircon Plating with a daily crafting writ reward. I also received several Chromium Plating with daily writ rewards (on different toons of course).

It will take less time to get the materials needed to upgrade with the elimination of grains, thus being able to craft more of the newer jewelry writs more often.

The only issue I see is RNG of getting plating from refining or from daily crafting writ reward. Time will tell.

Did a little testing this morning when I logged in. Did a couple 100 stack refines and it's perfectly in line with the other refinements, about 8-9 chromium per 100 stack. But RNG is still RNG.

For a lot of people, like me, purple and gold jewelry writs were never worth the value of materials used. I have several thousand vouchers worth of them waiting for the update to drop on console (all earned, none bought).

Knowing that I'll also have several hundred gold and a thousand or more purple platings will allow me to make them all. Whether I'll do purples after that is yet to be seen, but considering I've only ever done gold writs for wood/smith/cloth, maybe not.

I always filled the gold ones - 600+ vouchers was worth the mats to me (though.... I always had to buy the blue platings - I've NEVER had more than a couple of those at a time, and that was if I didn't have a gold one waiting....)

I'll be interested to see what happens now.

Refining and deconning used to give grains, and you needed 20 blue grains and 30 purple grains for a purple master writ. Now, refining and deconning give platings, and you need 3 blue platings and 4 purple platings for a purple master writ. From needing 50 upgrade items to only needing 7 upgrade items. I can't say how good 32 vouchers is in terms of supply and demand and overall economy, especially since it varies between platform and region. But, at a quick glance, 32 vouchers seems reasonable for the time needed to farm/decon 3 blue upgrade mats and 4 purple upgrade mats.

I wouldn't really have a problem with purple writs being worth around 30, except they didn't do anything about trait mats so they probably won't be any more worth doing than the blues were. I'm not paying out for infused/triune/harmony mats just for 30wv

I thought I had a bug or something like that.
So, they made platings collecting easier, but they made jewelry improving slightly more demanding AND they drastically lowered purple jewelry writs reward ? What's the point for us crafters to complete them anyway ?

I've always completed jewelry writs because I've always been rich enough to buy platings when I needed to (most of the time I kept the writs until I had enough platings from refining), and it was always worth it to me (I even managed to get golden writs for incredibly low prices), but if purple writs are worth more or less the same as blue ones, what's the point ? I'll just destroy them.

Nah not worth it anymore, i did all my old 200+ purple writs destroyed any new ones including gold and any blue i had stored. Be sticking to blacksmithing/woodworking its the most economical in my opinion, and i dont have to run around buying stacks of platinum. Ill instead use platings for builds i need to form and all swift adept rider for writ mules.

if you have all of your motifs collected now just keep ttc open and run around to get the cheapest golden woodwork or blacksmithing writs of the higher writ value which sometimes sell very cheap you can get 6k writs over a couple days if you get to them first. think around the most i did in a single day once was around 4k writs when i needed them which would also be profitable if you did not actually need the writ vouchers for anything. ball park numbers for me would have been under 10k for 66 - 180 ww writs and 10k for 360 bs writs, price would vary though depending on what i wanted the writs for. up until a couple months ago could do this not sure now as not looked for writs in a while

The problem doesn't concern only purple jewelry writs, golden ones also have been lowered. And SERIOUSLY Bethesda you think I'll bother completing golden jewelry writs for 112 vouchers ?!? This is ridiculous.
Purple AND golden jewelry writs must recover their former value, or else no one will try to persue jewelry crafting anymore ! This nonsense is worthless !

The values shown for the platings are not yet accurate, nor indeed are the amounts shown to be required. I would expect the reward from a gold jewelry writ to still be more than clothing (which for me are not always worth doing), and it appears that they are.

Probably a problem with the addons I use, they may require some update, but it doesn't change the fact that it's a golden jewelry writ with only 112 vouchers as reward, while the most rewarding golden jewelry writs that I've complete along the years used to grant 635 vouchers.

i havent seen any new jewelry writs yet, but seems to be mostly in line with other crafts (like was promised)

the highest value woodworking, smithing, clothing gold writs are usually in the 200-300 range, but thats because it has a rare motif + nirnhoned + 9 trait set

usually just having nirnhoned trait on a non jewelry writ is worth like 90-120 vouchers

so the jewelry ones seem to be about the same

the harder part of the jewelry writs will be the trait materials (as those only drop from specific activities, and still have unrefined materials which is different from other crafts)

I don’t think it’s a problem with the add-on, but that trading prices are still adjusting to platings now dropping instead of grains but upgrades now requiring the same amount as clothing, blacksmith, and woodworking. I think it’s too soon to judge if these writs are worth it based on the cost of doing them. Based on the value of dreugh wax, I think that gold clothing master writs should award more vouchers.

the only thing about the cost of the mats is, that its a little subjective and varies widely depending on platform and server

dreugh wax on PC NA dont cost the same as say dreugh wax on PS or xbox servers, and likely even varies to PC EU

i personally find master writs far more worthwhile to do than daily writs, even if its gold ones lol, i dont buy the mats though i just let them stack up usually from hirelings (i feel like i get dreugh wax pretty regularly from hirelings)

“Ancient” platings do not exist in the game. They, and their prices, are purely inventions of the add-on.

The old high-voucher writs are currently a better bang for the buck than they ever were when you had to acquire grains, but they won’t drop any more. Eventually, they will get used up, and the new ones will only need to be judged against the other crafts. Considering that they need no style knowledge, they still appear too generous.

I agree with your main points, but I am pretty sure that ancient platings exist in the game, although in a rather ephemeral state. My understanding is that old platings that were in locations that the conversion didn't touch are labeled as ancient, but they will automatically convert on moving through a players inventory. Those locations definitely include guild banks, probably also guild stores, the mail system, and maybe housing storage chests.

I received my first gold writ yesterday it required dawn prism and rewarded 135 vouchers.

I have received multiple purple writs, the lowest rewarded 23 vouchers, most are around 28-30 vouchers and the highest rewards 58 vouchers, again that one requires a dawn prism.

What I will say is platings are dropping just as frequently from daily crafting writs as the grains used to, I have had multiple drops most days.

I haven't done any refining since update 40 but I have done all my stored "old" purple and gold writs and a few blue ones and my stored platings are still in numbers that make me smile!

I can see a point in the future where I may consider doing at least some of the new writs, it's hard to predict but I get the feeling chromium will end up cheaper than wax, possibly on a par with tempering alloy, which will for me bring the new writs into the viable category. 🙂

Before the update(U40) I always loved that higher quality jewelry master writs gave so many vouchers. This made getting more vouchers seem quicker. Though the issue pre-U40 was that the lower quality(blue) jewelry master writs dropped more than its upgrade material dropped.

My problem with jewelry master writs has never really been the upgrade materials(though that was an issue as well with the lower quality master writs), but the rarity of the trait materials. Even before U40 I did all my jewelry master writs with the base 3 traits. And even the higher rarity ones(purple/gold) with rare traits, as the amount of vouchers was worth the costs of the rare trait material. Which is no longer the case.

Personally I'd want the jewelry master writs returned to the pre-U40 writ voucher amount, just make them incredibly rare like they used to be. Or change it so any purple/gold jewelry master writ can only drop with the base three traits. Right now even the higher quality master writs without the base three traits aren't worth doing, due to the trait material rarity/costs. Which is a major difference from the other crafting skills.

This was probably an oversight with making jewelry crafting like the other crafts.

So after playing a couple of weeks with the new jewelry crafting live... any jewelry master writs of any rarity without the base three traits are not worth doing at all, due to the trait material rarity. This includes purple and golden master writs. And the chance of finding a master writ with the base three traits, is very rare.

This is actually much much worse than before. As before the change the high amount of vouchers compensated for the rarity of the trait materials. At the moment getting a jewelry master writ just feels like getting inventory clutter/filler.

Please please fix this, or change it back to how it was. Only let jewelry master writs of any rarity drop with the base three traits, or change jewelry master writs back to how they were before the change: Rare but with a high amount of vouchers. Another option would be to make all the jewelry trait materials non-rare, but I doubt this would ever happen due to their tie-in with PvP and other activities.

Personally I'd prefer to have jewelry master writs changed back to how they were(rare with high amount of vouchers), as this also allowed solo players to gather vouchers in a decent pace. And it made using the rare materials worthwhile, both the trait and upgrade materials.

PS: This is only about jewelry master writs, I loved everything else about the jewelry craft changes.
