Upscaled Textures, Please?

I know that ZOS has said they don't plan to update older content, but I take this to mean that they're not going to go back and put dev-hours into rebuilding the old lands from scratch. That being said, isn't it possible to get a fully-upscaled texture pack for the game? I'm aware it might decrease performance for some machines but I think the game can look quite dated in places and a texture update would help tremendously with minimal effort. With AI upscaling software much of the work can be offloaded to machines.

I understand why there might be trepidation due to quality concerns and the time it might take to verify each but...please? I'd really love to have a more modern-looking ESO.

The Sorc pets minus the atronach looks really ugly now compared to basically anything else after imperial city DLC which was like 8 years ago.

Yeah...personally I'd like to have more freedom to change their appearance but a texture update for the default look would be a start, at least.

ZOS said they'd look at updating the base game content only after they've filled the map with potential fresh content.

That's basically saying they won't ever update the base game then, because literally there is 2 continents worth on Nirn and dozens of daedrics realms. That is literally 30+ years at the rate they release new zones.

I would like better quality hair textures and shading.

Absolutely, I've already sent them feedback about this. The inconsistency is pretty glaring.

I'm aware of that, and I mentioned it in the original post, but I don't feel like this excludes the possibility of a texture update that can largely be handled by AI upscaling software which could be left unattended while the work is completed. ZOS would likely want someone to verify that the textures meet quality standards but I think this is a worthwhile project that would take a minimal amount of effort given the quality of the upscaling tools available.

If this were to happen, it would need to be an optional change - because many people (myself included) play this game on old machines (mine's 8 years old for instance, and I'm not sure I'll be able to replace it this year - I hope I'll be able to, but life is sometimes unkind....)

If it was texture upgrade packs for download, that would work.

Absolutely, I wouldn't expect anyone on older hardware to be forced to use it. Texture quality is a graphics setting, I don't see why it couldn't be an opt-in for those who want it in the options menu.

Yeah, that would be fine. Would I love to have 8k texes in game? Sure. But until I have the money for a new machine (I use savings accounts, I don't put stuff like that on credit) it's far beyond this current computer's abilities. Yes, I'm running 2 fairly new 4k screens, but that's the extent of the "upgrades" to this antique!

Above all else the game needs new models for our characters, then new animations & effects for old classes. But yeah, a HD texture pack would help the old world look a bit better.

I think the best way to prioritize expectations is to consider the things that have the least amount of development friction. Personally I don't expect models to change because of the work involved, but I do think textures are possible because a lot of the work can be automated.

At the very least, you can rest assured ZOS is never going to touch on Akavir.

This, in spades. I quit WoW because they "upgraded" the character models - and none of my girls looked like they should. It was SO wrong....

No, that wasn't the "only" reason I quit and haven't ever been back - but it was the last straw, and that poor camel's knees were already buckling. When my girls didn't look like I'd made them any more, the poor camel cried aloud to the universe as her knees broke....

If the ESO Extract tool could inject files back into the structure modders could easily upscale all the old textures including the bump maps and shaders for some truly stunning visuals.

Of course would need to do it everytime there was a update but it's possible
