A more or less newbie returner alot of questions and need suggestions! I have all Content and subbed

Darkshadow1911
Hello all!

I am a returning player in away. I was in closed beta, played a few months after release. But, then life started to go sideways. Well, I am returning now, and I have alot to learn and need help.
Suggestions on addons. suggestion on a class to learn the game with and where to start after tutorial? what crafting to do, or can you do it all? Any suggestions that you can think of would help, I am at 70% downloaded so I have an hour or so before I make my character. I know I need a Guild and I am looking for one to join to help me but want to play endgame stuff too when I get there.

Info about me, I am 49, I normally play a caster in this games but I have of late kind of enjoying melee. I can heal in WoW etc but now sure about in here not now the game. Same with Tanking, but I really enjoy dps. But will be willing to give the tank and healer a shot when I get sometime under my belt.

    any class is good.
i think warden is nice for beginning and it's easy to do all 3 roles with.
though arcanist and necromancer are also easy to do all 3 roles with.
sorcerer is also very fun as it can summon combat pets which fight for you.

you can craft furniture, gear, foods
but definitely need eso plus to craft a lot because of unlimited space for crafting materials in the craft bag.

you can use the guild finder in game or make a post on the guild forums category for your server and platform.

you can start wherever you want after the tutorial as long as you have access to the area.

at level 10 you can queue for group dungeons if you want to do group content
and you can also enter imperial city and cyrodiil for pvp.

you can do public dungeons and delves solo. they all have skyshards(3 skyshards give one skillpoint) and each public dungeon has a boss that gives a skill point.
and they all have little quests, some have more than one.

i recommend joining the fighters guild, mages guild, and undaunted as soon as you can.
the skill lines are really useful.

the undaunted are in inns in vulkhel guard, davon's watch, and daggerfall

i usually go to rosy lion in daggerfall for undaunted as there's an inn room there that's easy to teleport to.
(inn rooms can be acquired for free by doing the housing tutorial quest or bought for 3000 gold)

and fighters and mages guild are in nearly every city. on the map their icons are a sword and an eye.

    if you like questing

all zone stories give some skill points.

    and
you could do the base game main quest line
i would start with using any of the portals and use a wayshrine to get to daggerfall, vulkhel guard, or davon's watch and do the quest the Hooded Figure gives you.

it'll take you to the coldharbour tutorial and afterwards you'll be on one of the starter islands, depends on your chosen alliance which but you can go to any of them with a wayshrine.
    khenarthi's roost for aldmeri dominion
    bleakrock isle for ebonheart pact
    stros m'kai for daggerfall covenant

the zone stories of the islands will take you through the other base game zones and eventually lead to coldharbour.
however you can also skip the alliances' stories and only do the Harbourage quest that starts in the coldharbour tutorial

it's probably easiest to do the dlc zone stories in release order as some characters do return occasionally but it's fine to do in any order.

can't really suggest addons though as i primarily play on playstation,
but i know there's good mini map addons that help,
    EHT is useful for housing,
    Accurate World Map is pretty,
    reshade is pretty
and this website is used for finding addons

The easiest of those three options is by far Dragonknight (DK). Nightblade requires weaving (LA then Skill within every global cooldown) to use one of their main skills and Necro has blastbones and corpse consumption which can have a learning curve to use.

Sorcerer, Templar and Arcanist are for Beginners. Simple, yet powerful

Necromancer, DragonKnight, Warden and Nightblade all have advanced class mechanics, that require a lot of practise and metronome-like player skills and knowhow.

Generally, try to unlock as many skill lines and get as many skill points as possible on your main character. You'll need it.
Every toon should unlock all crafting skill lines and max them out.
Ideally you will do all crafting daillies on all your toons every day. That is the basis for your fortunes. Belive me.

    Pro Tipp for free:
Do not unlock any ability and allocate any attribute points until you ...
Get the free house and place the free armory crafting station via the housing menu.
In the menu save the build and name it free respec and never again override it.
Now you have a free of charge respec for the rest of your ESO life. No need to buy scrills from the store ir spennd tons of gold at the respec shrines.
You just need to reload this very first build.
    Cool, right?
If anyone here says: OH! But, PVP! I swear I'll ...

Thank you for the valuable input and respectfully recommend to discuss that aspect of ESO on the PVP forum.

What DK advanced class mechanics? Genuine question. The only trouble I’ve ever had with it is having to be melee and not having a heal built-in to my rotation (have to slot coagulating or vigor).

You don’t need to save the armory build as nothing, you get 2 empty armory slots per character already.

I meant whip and stone fist. Two abilities that do different things under different circumstances. And the player has to constantly judge, when to cast.

Those two are definetly not basic abilities.

Plus one could argue, that the most advanced class mechanic is the sustain, that for a big part works by status effect apllication or repeat casts of specific magicka abilities for the helping hands passive.

I mean, obviously most DKs have gotten used to it by now. But from a beginner players perspective the class requires considerably more effort to master.
