What is your favorite Overland content build/class

Hi all,
I am returning to the game and I am looking for a build/class that is really good for solo overland content. Specifically downing world bosses. I have been rocking my Stam Necro since coming back a few days ago. I like Necro and I am working on getting the build but I am not sure she will stand up to those WBs solo. Any ideas or thoughts on what you guys like to use to solo such content? Thank you all!

    Greetings,

This thread has been moved to the Combat & Character Mechanics section, as it is better suited there.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    i like to use
order's wrath, venomous smite, unfathomable darkness, mad tinkerer's, false god's devotion, and deadly strike

there are other good/fun sets like briarheart, heartland conqueror, ashen grip, defiler, Deadlands assassin, hexos' ward

usually i use one of them with order's wrath though false god's is also good to use with one of the others.

vicious ophidian from the craglorn trials is the stamina version of false god's.
mother's sorrow is an overland alternative which you can find in deshaan and leviathan from crypt of hearts is a stamina version of that.

you could also use Medusa from Arx Corinium as it also gives lots of critical chance though it's heavy armour so i would use weapons and jewelry, maybe one armour piece for extra health.

i use oakensoul with a light slimecraw hat, it's definitely a very useful mythic for fighting worldbosses solo.

though stormfist and slimecraw monster sets are pretty good if you don't have access to oakensoul.

engine guardian can be useful if you need more recovery, especially health.

i use the thief mundus stone with divines as the trait for my armour, bloodthirsty on jewelry, and precise on my weapons.

for stamina builds i either use bow or two handed and for magicka lightning staff or frost if on my wardens.
but you should use whichever you like.

If you are looking specifically for Stam Necro, you should take a Dual Wield frontbar and TwoHanded or Bow backbar.

Basically, the class itself has problems with self healing at the moment, because of all the underpowered corpse mechanics and the buggy/easily broken tether abilities.
Bloodthirst (Flurry morph) largely solves that issue.

TwoHanders help with all the direct damage, that Blastbones and Skeletal Archer do.
Try to use some Magicka Abilities and you shouldn't have problems with sustaining.

    All previously mentioned sets work.

Thank you for your insight guys. Since there seems to be some major flaws with Nerco currently, do you suggest another class for the Overland content, or just stick with Necro?

Generally, the best options in SOLO content are Arcanist, Oakensoul Heavy attack builds, and Magicka Templar.
The other classes have good options as well, but you have to put in significantly more effort than with these three options.

Ah, and take a companion Tank with you. That actually helps in Overland content.

Any class can solo a worldboss if they’re built with enough DPS or survivability. I bring a companion healer and a burst heal when I overland on my endgame DPS (magden, high DPS) but my main (stamsorc, low DPS) I just have a burst heal, shield, and hurricane with no healer.

Master's 2H stamsorc has worse single-target damage than magplar, but matches it in AOE damage and is much tankier. Is magplar good enough for the most demanding world bosses, such as the Unfinished Dolmen in Wrothgar? With the right build maybe, but I've always felt Brawlersorc outclasses it for really hard content. To sum up Brawlersorc: For overland mobs it's as good as anything, because they die so easily. For bosses it's slow, but very comfortable. For the toughest content it outperforms every other build I play, except where you absolutely positively must be ranged. Here is my stamsorc, alone in vet Shipwright's, something that my magplar can't do. Build is at the end:

Here's my Arcanist, alone in vet Cauldron. I'm not sure how good this class really is for solo play, since the Fatecarver channel is substantially longer than even a heavy attack. You can't block, dodge or bash while beaming. It's interesting that all the above-recommended build types, Arcanist, heavy attack builds, templars, use channeled attacks and have the same drawback. I don't necessarily disagree with those recommendations, but Brawlersorc avoids that problem and can, therefore, solo some content better than those builds. That said, at the end of the day it's about knowing and dancing around the mechanics. Arcanist has so much easy damage it's possible to build tanky, as I have done here, and not lose too much of it. This mitigates the problem of being stuck in the beam to some degree. Note I'm using Hexos Ward, a shielding set. Arcanist has it's own shielding skills, but I'm not a fan of active shielding skills that don't do damage, and that consume valuabe "Fatecarver" crux, in solo play. Build is at the end:

I should add that both of these builds were designed to fulfil a dual role as solo and group tank / carry builds, hence they include taunt skills or sets. The stamsorc is extensively tested in that role and will solo / carry any group up to non-DLC hard mode level. One of the ideas was to maximise resistances. I ultimately decided to retain Tormentor for solo play, because the resistances carry over to the front bar. This has felt useful for the hardest content I have tried to solo, such as the Shipwright's boss shown in the video. However for mere world bosses, you don't really need that and could trim the build for more damage, for example by back-barring Wretched Vitality and going for weapon / spell damage enchants on the jewelry, or by wearing a crit set and, say, back-barring a Maelstrom 2H. Switching to a sustain or damage race, instead of Nord, would likely also help the build in solo play where it doesn't have to operate like a tank and hold bosses in one place.

P.S. While I like stamsorc for Brawler builds, due to the physical damage passives, Crit Surge healing, and Dark Deal sustain, you can make that work on any class. I don't play Necro, but believe it's issues include DOTs being ground-based and taking a lot of time to apply and ramp up, whereas a lot of fights nowadays are mobile, putting Necro at a disadvantage. I would say none of that matters terribly for overland, not even for world bosses, since those are simply not that hard. Play your Necro, if you like it. In the worst case, a weapon-skill approach, such as using Master's 2H / Brawler, will transform anything into a viable build.

You could wear just about anything and still have too much DPS for overland.

Necro does have issues but most of it is offensive skills related and since you're stamina you should be okay. That is why magcro hurts so much because we only have Destro staff to turn to but stamina has more options. If you wanted to go with another class though I'd say Arcanist, templar, or DK... those are the ones I have a lot of fun with.

I'll tell you what I am going to try on my necro, even though I retired it I figured I'd try this for giggles: Order's Wrath/Venomous Smite and some sort of defensive monster set like maybe Iceheart. I was also thinking I could go with the Pale Order mythic for additional healing and do a 1pc monster set. I was also going to try to have a tad bit more health than typical PvE damage... around maybe 27-28k. You don't typically need that much health but for soloing content like world bosses and dungeons made for groups having that extra health can help survive some hard-hitting bosses.

The most appropriate build for overland content is the full "naked nord"-set paired with a heavily drunk player.

Overland difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 9 years. 6 paid expansions. 24 DLCs. 40 game changing updates including One Tamriel, an overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver & Gold as a "you think you do but you don't" - tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game. I'm bored of dungeons, I'm bored of trials; make a personal difficulty slider for overland. It's not that hard.

World Bosses are easy to take down solo after a little bit of CP. So your primary goal should be to have fun. My advice would be to buy Daedric Trickery set from the nearest guild store.

My old stam sorc or my magblade are the best. Not the highest dps chars of mine but they have the three f’s. Fun, fast, and fluid.
