Please consider giving Wise Mage the 5 piece bonus treatment you gave to Infallible Mage. An additional line of crit chance and 900 additional damage on heavy attacks would be grand. Currently Wise Mage has only 4 bonuses and Infallible has 6 bonuses. They are both trial sets, they should be of equivelant strength.

i think this is basically a relic from pre-perfected sets

wise mage is basically the "non-perfected" version of infallible aether, since infallible aether has the slayer buff and the extra heavy attack dmg, but all the other bonuses are identical

if you changed any of the wise mage bonuses to be closer to infallible aether, they would be basically identical copies of each other

edit: before the recent change to crag trial drop pools, infallible aether would be more common on vet difficulty and wise mage more common on normal difficulty

Yeah, the Craglorn trial sets are very much a chaotic mess. Infallible was once only sourced from Sanctum Ophedia, then it was changed to drop from all three Craglorn Trials. Wise Mage was once only sourced from Aetherian Archive and Hel Ra Citadel, but now is only available from Sanctum Ophedia.

The rate of the drop was never affected by the difficulty of the dungeon.

when they were split into the 2 pools (trial specific + all crag trial), it would role the trial specific pool more commonly on normal, and the all crag trial pool more commonly on vet, which was why curation was "messed up" with those trials for awhile until they changed them to match whats in the collection book and remove the 2 separate pools

wise mage was part of the "trial specific" pool and infallible aether was part of the "all crag trial" pool, so it was more common to get wise mage on normal, and infallible on vet (since i had run those trials far more on vet, i had the all crag trial pool completely collected and was missing a lot of pieces from the trial specific pools before the drop changes)

a lot of the problem with some of the crag sets is that they are horribly outdated at this point and even overshadowed by dungeon gear, only a few are even really of note anymore, like there is absolutely no reason to even bother running wise mage over infallible aether because they are both acquired at the same rate now (other sets such as defending warrior and eternal warrior have such different proc effects, even though defending warrior is basically the "non perfected" eternal warrior)

Your experience with the sets aside, I agree with you, Wise Mage needs a buff.

If it had the two bonuses I mentioned added to the 5 piece bonus it would be a viable set to run with another trial set and not have an overlapping minor slayer on the 3 piece. Variety, the spice of life.

the thing is, minor slayer is the main reason to even run trial gear in the first place lol

so wise mage not having it, theres no reason to use it over infallible aether

i dont disagree that some of these sets should be revisited, as in this case, wise mage and infallible aether are way too similar, and infallible aether is objectively better as it has bonuses that wise mage does not

Yeah, maybe you missed the part where I said you could run Wise Mage with another trial set that has the minor slayer on it.

why run wise mage at all then? if the only bonus your getting is minor vuln which is already very easy to source as is (just triggering concussed status effect applies minor vuln for example), you might as well still use infallible aether if not just to get the heavy attack bonus dmg

even if you stacked infallible and another trial set and had 2 sources of minor slayer, it would still be a better choice over wise mage, there is literally no reason to run that set right now as its just a worse version of infallible aether

the set needs to be completely overhauled in order to even consider using it

I uh, explained why I would consider running it, if it had the additional Crit Chance and 900 bonus damage applied to it's 5 piece.

It would then be:
3 lines of crit chance
1 line of weapon/spell damge
1 line of additional damage to monsters on HA
1 line of minor vuln on HA.

Pair it with another trial set that has Minor Slayer or pair it with Oakensoul that has Minor Slayer already and you've got even more options.

why make the set 99% identical to infallible though? i dont really see it as any difference, nobody is going to re-farm wise mage if they already have infallible if the only difference is 1 line of crit vs minor slayer

i feel like each set should be unique, where in this case the sets are virtually carbon copies of each other (one is just obviously worse), and with your suggestions would be more of a carbon copy than it is right now if they literally only differed on 1 line that wasnt even the proc

if your going to change the set, i would rather see it overhauled so it actually does something unique, instead of being a complete copy of another set (instead of a blatantly worse version like it is now)

again, im not complaining at all the set should be updated, it certainly does as there is objectively no reason to use it in its current form, but i would rather see it updated to actually provide something of value instead of just "alternate infallible aether"

Good points. I suppose I was offering a starting point for adjusting the set that would allow some versatility outside of slapping Minor Slayer on it and coming up with another proc mechanic.

Ultimately it's up to ZoS to do something with the set to make it a viable set. And I'm not suggesting that this is the only set that needs to get looked at. Thanks for your input.

a second effect on the 5th piece would be nice too.

too many sets have minor slayer these days.
