Why is the manteinance so long?

8 hours seem like a lot of time, what actually goes on during a server manteinance?

✭✭✭✭✭Hm, I had assumed it was the usual regular maintenance on both servers (NA and EU), but now I see it's just EU-- and all 3 EU servers, at that. Very interesting!
Edit: I was wondering if it might be something involving hardware, and it seems that it is:
