Have they fixed companion items reverting back to white?

A few weeks ago when I gave my companions purple gear, most of it vanished and had reverted back to white gear. So I had lost about 1 mil of purple gear yay. I sent a help ticket but it hasn't been replied to. I haven't taken my companions back out for fear that when I do their remaining gear will have also reverted back to white.
Is it safe to take them back out to play and gear them up?
