What is a 1 bar build?

There are some veteran players questioning my stamina-based melee templar dps build. I mostly have dual wield weapon abilities equipped and some templar melee abilities. I wasn't even in a group this time.
Is that good or?

    by definition a 1 bar build is where you are only using 1 bar

    in the context of the game, most 1 bar builds are referring to an oakensoul heavy attack build

    if your happy with your build and its working then eh? i personally could care less what other people think of my builds, i know a lot of my builds are not even close to meta but are functional lol

    i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

    So having a 1 bar build is a good thing then, ok. Now I understand. I'm not sure what an Oakensoul heavy attack build is. I guess my build works then. I'm not sure if this is important information or not but I have all my armor to be Deadly strikes set and the weapons and gloves are part of another set that starts with the letter "f" and I don't know how to spell the name of it.

    There are still some things in the game I'm still getting to know and are learning about. I'm so glad the forums exist so I can ask questions and receive some help. Thanks a lot. :)

    oakensoul heavy attack build uses the oakensoul mythic along with 2 sets that boost the dmg of light and heavy attacks (usually seargents mail + one other set (unaunted infiltrator, undaunted unweaver, noble duelist, and i think a few others))

    its not like top tier, but its one of the options available for players who dont want to do light attack weaving

    technically speaking just using the oakensoul mythic at all makes you a 1 bar build because it removes the ability to switch bars

    Oakensoul actively restricts you to one bar, meaning you could not switch bars if you tried. Usually its a sorcerer build.

    Before Oakensoul, there were one-bar builds like a VMA one-bar sorc. Its basically shortening your toolkit to 5 skills and an ultimate with a short rotation, normally a heavy attack rotation because you do not have the downtime on the back bar to help with sustain, so the heavy attack is your sustain.

    Like @Necrotech_Master said, an Oakensorc build is viable as a DD in group content, but will not outperform someone on most traditional 2 bar builds (who know what they are doing). There was talk of the cleave damage from lightning staffs being changed, but I don't know if that ever happened.

    With that said, the Oakensorc makes content like veteran DSA and VMA much, much easier. Ran VDSA recently with 3 Oakensorc and it was a joke.

    There was talk of the cleave damage from lightning staffs being changed, but I don't know if that ever happened.

    the trifocus for lightning staves was changed to only apply on the 3rd tick of the heavy channel

    so total aoe dmg on a single heavy attack was reduced about 40-50%

    the final tick of the heavy can still pack a wallop though, but it has to actually connect, if your target dies before you finish the heavy, there wont be any aoe dmg unless your providing some of your own (such as unstable wall or other class aoes)

    1 Bar builds don't have to be heavy attack sorcs, although that seems to be the most popular.

    I use a lot of 1 bar builds because I'm lazy and it's hard to beat 100% uptime on buffs. You can get pretty good results, but not top.

    A couple of my current faces are:
    * DoT based magdk
    * bleed stamden
    * mag Arcanist
    * bow sorc
    * jabbing magplar

    None of them use heavy attacks unless they are out of resources, which doesn't happen much.

    @Necrotech_Master thank you, I couldn't find the actual answer. One rumor was that it would be eliminated altogether.

    The Oakensorc makes a lot of content easier, but not as easy as the stam arcanist. :)
