Accidentally inviting others to Group

This has happened to me a couple of other times over the years, and just happened again when I was in town to deconstruct.
I approached the Enchanting table and deconstructed glyphs. As I moved over to the Jewelcrafting table someone started to hit me with mudballs. I ran over to the Blacksmithing table and they kept following me and mudballing me. I turned and told them to stop and to my surprise they said in Group chat "Why group?" I said "I didn't" and they left group and left.
I don't know how this happened. I did not use the F key at all, let alone target this player and hold it down and choose invite to group, yet here we were in a group.
Has this happened to anyone else?
