Hiya,
I saw the twitch stream yesterday regarding Endless Archives. I am quite excited about it, as the game really needed something for solo players to quickly just jump in without waiting that isn't trying to solo group dungeons/arenas. It somewhat reminded me of the Warriors games, where you have hordes of enemies to hack & slash continuously. Really like what the developers have come up with here.
Here are some of my thoughts on future mechanics to consider for this game mode/future evolutions:
- Special synergies with your companion/partner where you can do flashy kill-executes on mobs. Special finishing moves that are only available in these types of dungeons.
- Waves of hordes (similar to zombies in other video games/movies) where you need to run away from, and use a dwemer machines to shoot them.
- Thematic shifts as you go through each portal - right now, everything is Apocrypha themed. Perhaps in the future, as you pass through portals, you can visit new realms of oblivion. Some could be grassy fields, some are burning deadlands, some are celestial and starry, and some are pitch dark, etc.
- Utilization of pvp siege weapons for boss fights/mob control. Something like castle defense against large mobs of enemies?
Also, regardless of how this game mode evolves, I think setting a clear vision/mission in mind first is important. Years down the line, I hope the game mode doesn't become a painful grind like antiquities system. So I hope there is a fine balance between fun-to-play vs grind/farming.
What are your hopes/future vision for this new system? Share your thoughts.
Thanks~
