Attribute points - how do they affect character's stats ?

I searched various sites for this information, but couldn't find anything. How do the attribute points affect the character's stats, i.e. damage, resistance, etc. ? Are there any calculations/formulae available for this ?

On a related note: I was also wondering if anyone has created a character with 64 health attribute points, and if so, how did it work out for you ?

    i think each attribute pt counts as around +111 pts to that stat

    the only reasons i see people put a lot of pts into health is because
    1. your a tank in pve
    2. pvp
    plays PC/NA

    i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

    Adding to the above, the UESP website has nice calculators of how your character's stats like max stamina or weapon damage then affect skills, including the actual formula behind it. Here's an example for the Lethal Arrow bow skill.

    Regarding health, the only reason to put all 64 points into health is if you tank (veteran) PVE content, although some also add points to the other two. Some tank builds also have a few points in stamina just to make sure it's higher than magicka. Reason being that activating synergies returns your dominant resource and as a tank you generally want stamina back.

    @Ph1p I tank vet PVE content and do not put 64 points into health. You would run out of resources quickly. The most I have put in health is 24 on a nightblade tank.

    Maybe if you are building a 40K health PVP warden cheese build, go all 64 into health.

    @vsrs_au the simple answer is most PVE DD builds have you commit all 64 to either stamina or magicka, with a few exceptions like some DK builds. Yes, its the evil "min max" where you also go all stamina or magicka glyphs on armor, too. Food and CP should provide more than enough health, which should be above 20K for vet DLC dungeons, though I like to be around 25K as those "not really a one-shot" mechanics keep creeping up higher and higher.

    For tanking, its a balancing process where your skills come into play. A common split is 24 magicka and 40 stamina, as blocking and roll dodging need to be supported. Then go tri-stat on food, prismatic for large armor piece glyphs, and you can balance out the other resources with glyphs on smaller armor pieces.

    Like I said, there are tanks that put attribute points into stamina and magicka as well, and your example shows that it can work.

    Having said that, typical endgame tank builds for veteran trials do put most if not all attribute points into health, because incoming damage is just too high. For example, the final boss in vKA hard mode heavy-attacks you for 30k damage while blocking, same goes for an unblocked light attack. And that's not counting other sources of damage happening at the same time. In addition, many tank skills scale off of max health, like shields and self-heals.

    While you do need a certain resource pool, cost reduction and recovery become important in long fights, since you only benefit from a high maximum at the start. So tanks improve their resource management with cost reduction glyphs on jewelry, getting into the habit of heavy attacking to recover resources, and learning when not to (perma)block.

    Again, this does not mean you have to put all 64 attribute points into health. But if someone does, it's almost always a tank and actually very common, at least in PVE - I know absolutely nothing about PVP :D

    For my solo builds, I generally put a good many points into Health, with the rest (usually) going into Stamina. I don't usually do a 32-32 split; one is usually higher than the other, but it could be either more Health or more Stamina depending on various factors, such as racial passives and class skills.

    But that's because I enjoy being able to stand my ground and fight; having to constantly roll-dodge to avoid AOEs isn't my cup of tea. I know that a lot of players enjoy the feeling of power they get from being able to hit an enemy and do a lot of damage per hit-- or per second if it's a DOT type of attack-- but I get my feeling of power from being able to withstand attacks. I don't mind if a fight takes longer because I'm not doing a huge amount of damage, as long as I'm able to stay alive during the fight.

    As I said, that's for my solo builds.

    For the few characters where I decided to try something different, I have a Warden where I to pump all 64 points into Health, and he is the epitome of a wet noodle. I did succeed at soloing some world bosses, but if I remember correctly the fights were pretty long. I haven't played on him enough while grouped to know how well he can tank a dungeon or trial, but that was my original intention when I made him.

    I've also got a few characters where I've pumped all of my points into either Stamina or Magicka. I thought I was going to enjoy playing an all-Stamina build on my dual-wielding Nightblade, but I got frustrated trying to solo world bosses because he's just too squishy. Right now I'm having fun trying out an all-Magicka Arcanist damage dealer and an all-Magicka Arcanist healer, but it's been a real challenge to unlearn some of my preferred fighting tactics and learn different ones.

    @Ph1p True. I run health around 32K through CP and food. For something like VKA, I would run 10 in health skill points.

    Its all a comfort level thing, though. There is no one god build that will work in all.
