Any controller users out there? (PC)

Look I started this game on Xbox and then decided to redo years of play and go to PC but still play with a wired controller.
My question is how long do y’all’s controllers last? Mine usually only last a few months before buttons are pressing themselves and the stick drifts

I play with a wired PS4 controller, and the controller itself has lasted me years, but what I found is that after a while, the cable won't attach to the controller's socket snuggly anymore, so I either have to fiddle with the cable's attachment end, or use something to keep it from coming off from the socket (I don't really recommend doing that though, because you can damage the socket that way) or get a new cable. I've also used cheaper controllers that mimic the PS4 layout, and although their buttons are more rigid and less responsive, which is not ideal, the upside is that their cables are usually permanently attached to the controller and so they don't come loose.

My elite 2 lasted just a couple of months (I later learnt that they suffer from a design flaw - easy to google after it breaks). My ps4, Xbox 360, and razer wolverine lasted years.

I average around 6 months to a year before stick drift or button double clicking begins to occur. YMMV.

Used to get the cheap $20 ones and those would last for six months or so. Upgraded my motherboard recently so I've been able to use a wireless name brand Xbox controller and haven't had issues since.

I definitely recommend getting a warranty on wired controllers if you go the cheap route. The one I got through GameStop let me get a replacement whenever one would wear out and all the more I had to pay was the fee to renew the warranty.

    Exactly the same for me.
Used cheap-ish off-brand controllers for years, built a new pc with a new motherboard, decided to try the wireless xBox one. Very satisfied with it!

2 months when I would LA weave. My right shoulder button (spammable) would take so much abuse and just stop working. You know when it's coming because the button get's noticeably less springy overtime.

I switch to medium weaves, and now my conches last upwards of 6 months. Definitely buy the warranty. I have not had a controller outlast it since I started playing this game.

I use an old Xbox 360 one currently. I had a second one back when I still had my 360 but it died just after I moved to PC gaming.

I think that for me the key is to rotate their use. have two wireless easysmx which are rechargable and 30$ seems to last. rotate their use as they need recharges so no one controller get overused too quickly. downside is their wireless dongles are easy to break if you have a sff pc and forget to remove it from the front of the pc b4 opening the case... and one controller per dongle kinda sucks. def going bt controller next time.

I got tired of seeing my xbox controllers dying out. X360 all three died, Xone both of them.
I'm glad STEAM now accepts Nintendo Switch controllers natively. My Pro Controller is working since 2017 perfectly.
Plus since it has not analog triggers, I find it way less tiresome to play ESO and press the triggers to attack.

If you're on Steam, you can remap the touchpad on PS4 controller. Each of the sides of it are separate buttons from the center, and the touchpad itself can act as a mouse cursor.

If you get an older controller like an Xbox 360 one, a real one not a knock off it will last past your lifetime

Yes it is extremely easy to use. I paid like 12 bucks and now have the program forever. I may have a YouTube video on my account I made that has links to the profile I use that you can download for free. I’ll check when I have time and regardless come back here and let you know. Happy gaming.

Yeah the Gamepad UI is absolutely horrid. All of it. The PC UI is far superior.

The gamepad UI is superior in a few cases, like slotting items out of your inventory since all the slottable items are listed right there in the "Slottable" category and non-inventory items can be slotted right from the item itself.

That said, I wouldn't recommend the Xbox Elite controller. They feel really good for a while but I've yet to have one last more than a few months as the shoulder bumpers become unresponsive after a time. Most of the time I just use my regular old 360/One controller (don't remember which it is). The official one, not a knockoff or third party one.

I was really impressed with the PS5 controller when I started my PS account but there's some definite finagling that's required to get it to work correctly on Windows and I kinda gave up trying lol.

I play on both PC and Xbox, and I use a Razer Wolverine. They usually last me a few years, and I'm not particularly delicate with my controllers. It works on both PC and Xbox, and moves seamlessly between both, and the programmable paddles make gameplay so much simpler.

I actually much prefer the gamepad UI, looks a lot sleeker to me. PC UI feels outdated. To each their own, I suppose.

I've gone through a fair number of controllers over the years and the one that's really made an impression on me is the XBox Spectra from Powera. It actually feels sturdy and heavy weight in your hands compared to the other controllers I have gone through and I've had mine for about 2 years now. The rubber has rubbed off the joysticks a little bit but its still going strong lol..

BTW if stick drift is your only problem there is software out there that can adjust the dead zone on your controller to resolve some of those issues, and if you're playing through Steam its built into their launcher just take a look at the settings if so.

my issue is on the chracter menu you can usually use the right jstick to scroll down but it does work on the charcter menus so you cant see all your stats. you also cant mark things as junk on gamepad ui to auto sell at the merchant.

i prefer the gampad while adventuring and i like using it on the couch in front of the tv. mouse and kb not as convenient there.

I play with an Xbox one wireless controller on pc. I find them to be extremely durable. No issues after so much game time that I have worn the left stick padding off but it still works great. I always found the older 360 controllers would get a little drifty after a while.
