Suppressing Companions in Favor of Assistants - No longer working?

I tried this the other day and it worked like a charm.
Doing so now, I have Sharp-as_Night out, I then summon an assistant (tried with a variety) and upon dismissing the assistant my companion no longer automatically re-summons. I tried with Ember out as well.
Anyone else?
I did look within settings to see if there's a toggle and found nothing.
