Why use out of rotation crown crates for daily rewards?

I can't help but think of Snidely Whiplash twirling his mustache.

We've been pretty noisy here in the forums over the login rewards since they started making them available in 2018 with Summerset. Many nice things are included every year. If anyone wants to see the history of the rewards, I know of two websites:

    https://benevolentbowd.ca/games/esotu/eso-chronicle-of-daily-logon-rewards/
    https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Daily_Rewards

Not quite sure why anyoone would think this was spite, its a nice reward, it doesn't have to be related to any theme or what is currently in the crown store.

After all the requests for crown crates to return to daily rewards it feels a bit 'damned if you do, damned if you don't'

Free crates are great! Obviously there is no spite here, thanks ZoS.

I just surprised people weren't commenting on the other two "big" rewards being 25k gold (lol) and some tiny ear rings (roflmao).

It was just recently announced that one of the upcoming September daily redeemables will be two 'Akaviri Potentate Crown Crates'...

This isn't strange in itself, the first taste is always free after all. The questionable part is that while the Akaviri Potentate loot boxes will be showing up as daily redeemables, they won't be returning to the store. This was also the case for 'Flame Atronach Crate' and the 'Xanmeer Crate' when they were previously given away.

So I just have to ask, what are ZOS trying to achieve? Why tease the potential of getting something from a certain season while leaving that season completely inaccessable?

Is it just out of spite? Are ZOS so insistent on abusing 'FOMO' that they're now just making it impossible for people to not miss out? I genuinly want to know.

So to answer the question directly, no. No move here is made out of spite. In fact, we do not make decisions for both the game and the studio based on spite.

The crates are apart of the daily login rewards to give value to those who do log in everyday and play. We want to add value where opportunities present themselves and adding crates as part of the daily rewards for September is a way to do that. That's it. There is no fomo there. Everyone has equal access to earn those crates. That's also why we post them in advance. So everyone has the opportunity to plan their month for login time.

so let me ask this question. why are you not having more crown crates every month? why must there be only 2 crates? The more crates the developers make the longer it takes for those crates to return to the store.

Maybe because giving out more free crates cuts into their crate profits? Not exactly rocket science.

I thought they were asking why they don't bring back more crates per month, since they mentioned that the more crate seasons added, the longer it takes to see a crate season cycle through.

A normal month where no new crate season is introduced, we have the current season + a returning season for a couple weeks (independent from the possible free crate login rewards).

But I guess this can apply to the concept of free ones from login rewards as well, so maybe they mean that, which is weird to me, but I do think cycling through crate seasons more often since we have so many now is a good idea.

Crates in the daily rewards is a good thing. Why is anyone complaining about this. Better than 5000 gold or crown poisons lol?? What are y’all talkin about man 🤣

Glad to see you didn't get any further than the second sentence before responding.

"To clarify from the start, despite the fact I'd rather not see any loot boxes in a game that I've already paid for, I do not take particular issue with crates being added as daily rewards. What I am calling into question is why use out of rotation crates instead of crates that currently are or will soon become available?"

Thanks for the direct answer. I'm actually happy there's a more valuable reward like this and I think the daily login rewards have been increasingly more valuable. That's a good thing - mostly. I will challenge you on "There is no fomo there". There is, they're daily log in rewards and they incentivize people to log in or lose out. So I think that statement's inaccurate.

Going forward, I wouldn't mind seeing crates included monthly. I also wouldn't seeing them paired with whatever crate offering is active at the time.

I don't even need to read the rest of this post - it was made originallybefore you edited it w/ mal intent. We've been asking for crates to return to the daily login rewards for a while. This post is silly and counter-productive to 99% of the playerbase.

They'll likely never do what you're stating NOW because they want there to be a feeling of FOMO in any given crate season to drive sales. So they give old crates to not take away from that.

Also the current crates are available to buy, at your leisure. Until the season runs down. So always available, when you decide to dip into your pockets to do so.

This is why we can't have nice things.... someone will always complain. I dont buy crates. Its nice to just get one or 2 as a freebie every now and again. If they were trying to do that odds would be higher for a better drop to draw people in. Instead they seem to be unusually low.

More ways to earn old crates would be appreciated imo. Rather than cycling old crates forever, they should retire crates after 5 years and add them to related content as rewards for playing the game. Having crates in general isn't good imo, but this would at least address the lack of cosmetic rewards problem the game has, and breathe new life into old content people haven't been touching in a while.
