New Larcenist achievements inconsistent with Thieves Guild - Update 39

First of all, I really like these new achievements. They are a decent addition.

For those unaware, these achievements can be obtained in any DLC zone with an Outlaws Refuge by fencing items worth 20k in total.
This part is consistent with itself, but then there is the Thieves Guild DLC. Now, this DLC already had achievements for fencing goods in all the Alliance zones and Abah's Landing itself.
I don't think the Alliance achievement need any adjustments. they only require you to gain 4k per zone but the total amount needed for these achievements is still 20k. The odd one out is the achievement for Abah's Landing, Merchant Lord's Coffers. That one only requires 4k. Adjusting this would also make the Magnanimous Magnate achievement more expensive to obtain but I believe that would be well worth it to stay consistent with the Larcenist achievements.

It is also worth pointing out that the Thieves Guild fencing achievements are located in the Exploration subsection, while the Larcenist achievements are in the General subsections of their expansions. They also should be moved to the Exploration subsections.

Frankly, it should be 4k per zone, same as the previous ones. The reason the old Alliance achievements require 20k is because that's *five entire zones per alliance - each of which has the same amount of content as an entire yearly DLC, that is a full length questline, 16-18 skyshards, 6 delves, 6 WBs and 3-6 world incursions*, rather than one - and they're split 5x 4000 to make up the 20k that you need to fence for each achievement.

Honestly, 4k per zone for thieving is *enough*. How many more thievery zones have just been added?
    - Craglorn
    - Gold Coast
    - Orsinium
    - Vvardenfell
    - Clockwork
    - Summerset
    - Murkmire
    - N Elsweyr
    - S Elsweyr / Dragonhold
    - W Skyrim / Greymoor
    - The Reach / Markarth
    - Blackwood
    - Deadlands / Fargrave
    - High Isle
    - Galen
    - Necrom/Telvannis

16 zones *each* for fencing 20k worth of items. 320k gold worth of fencing. That's a bit insane to throw in all at once :-)

So I assume these new thieving achievements don’t automatically pop if you have the old ones and you have to do them again?
    Khajiit Stamblade main
    Dark Elf Magsorc
    Redguard Stamina Dragonknight
    Orc Stamplar PVP
    Breton Magsorc PVP
    Dark Elf Magden

If you have the old thieving achievements, they are still there, and they relate EXCLUSIVELY to Hew's Bane and the Base Game Alliance War zones.

The new thieving achievements relate EXCLUSIVELY to DLC zones other than Hew's Bane (Craglorn counts as a DLC for this purpose, although it was changed from that status to base-game status years ago): in other words, all the zones in which selling stuff made literally no progress towards the existing fencing achievements (apart from the overall Black Market Mogul).

All the new achievements start from zero - the game has never logged anything you sold in *those* zones before, except towards the overall total for the Black Market Mogul achievement.

Deadlands is not one of them.

but honestly, it's not 4k per zone. it's 20k per achievement! doesn't matter that it's spread out. if it was altered according to what you just said, every base game zone would need it's own 4k larcenist achievement. that would mean 15 new achievements for the thieves guild that are basically all the same. that would be a much larger alteration to existing content than changing the singular Hew's Bane achievement to have the same requirements as all the other achievements.

fencing stuff in the outlaw refuge is technically justice system, not thieves guild, which is base game functionality

having thieves guild does help, by making the fenced items 10% more valuable

there is also a cp slottable in the green tree which makes fenced items 25% more valuable (which stacks with the thieves guild passive)

so in reality you only need around 15k gold worth of goods to meet the 20k requirement (in fact i was able to finish the fencing achievement for wrothgar yesterday, using only about half of my daily fence allotments on 1 toon)

realistically this is a good way to help work on black market mogul achievement if you havent gotten that (requires fencing 1 million gold worth of items)
    plays PC/NA

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

feel free to stop by and use the facilities

There's two parts to using a fence, one is selling items, one is laundering. What counts toward the 20K, both parts or just the laundering part. I really don't understand these larcenist achievements, can someone explain how it works?
  • Granden_Woodleafson
I get it now, I read it wrong, I thought I would get 20K for fencing items at these locations. I just got the Murkmire Larcenist during the selling part of fencing, don't know if the laundering part counts. Great thread, pretty much covers it all, my reading comprehension needs to improve! :-)

    Laundering does not count.

I've got some good established pickpocketing routes in a few of the regular areas. Just going to steal from there and fence in the DLC zones.

Best place to fill the inventory with higher-value stolen items as qickly as possible is IMHO The Bearer's Rest inn in Fargrave. Upstairs you'll find a lot of containers to steal from and no NPCs are watching. Exiting the inn resets all containers. So you can loot that place over and over again.

If you have Azandar's passive unlocked it is even faster because the Research Portfolios that drop occasionally are also stolen.

I guess the difference is there's account wide achievements now, instead of it all having to be done on one character as the original achievements were. It's still a lot now tho, especially if you don't have multipe characters you're happy to steal with
