Never played imperial city before and so far i've been having a blast with the pvp and taking stones. However, 5 minutes ago I just lost 10k telvar stones because some moron lured a boss to me on purpose. He wouldn't stop following me as I tried to escape and eventually the harvester boss's attack killed me. He said I was "leeching" whatever that means, followed by insults and profanity.

I was running around and saw someone fighting a boss and almost dying multiple times, so I decide to help him. Guess I'm not doing that anymore :)

Do you share resources on kills in this area or something? Even if that were the case, I was under the assumption that a public area meant other people could participate as well.

To my knowledge, Stones are split between the people that helped kill the thing, NPC or player, so he was being incredibly toxic about the fact. Given the harassment I'd suggest a report. Usually people don't seem to care anyways, so I'd say just go for it if you're looking for stones as well, especially since the bosses have bigger payouts then the mobs, on top of their own loot like Monster helms

Leeching means you were attacking the same stuff as they were, and for every player that attacks a mob before it dies the tel-var drop gets evenly split between them
i.e. if mob dropped 100 stones, 1 person kill = get 100 stone, 2 person kill = get 50 stones each..and so on and so fourth

It's generally frowned upon to randomlly show up and blast things others are already tackling unless ya already in a pre-made group or they are trying to fight off enemy players, in which case, just go for it

Sorry for butting in, but you missed one important point in your spot on explanation. That point is, that *leeching* refers not commonly to attacking something someone else is already attacking, but to someone attacking something which is already nearly taken down / killed by someone else and with that pushing/shoving one self into the loot given by that kill, reducing the possible loot for the other person (who had the major part in taking down that npc).

    In regards to the OP.

What the other person did in form of insulting you really bad, should get a response with a ticket from you to ZOS about that player insulting you. Certainly, that player can be angry about loosing out on some looted Telvars, but thats no reasons to insult someone else! Especially since everything in the game is there for everyone and not only for *one* person alone!!! If a player wants to be in some way "fair" he/she won't be butting in when someone is fighting and the NPC is already below 1/4 HP. BUT!!! That doesn't mean he/she must do so ;) . In general its like - you see it, you want to fight it, you fight it, you kill it (if you can) and if someone else butts in or you are butting in somewhere, thats how it is, since its free for all :) .

Honestly? Leech away. It's the point of IC. If someone really doesn't want to split the stones, they should pull the boss to a hidden location or improve their dps to kill it faster.

People that complain about leeching are just being sour to their own alliance members.

How do you know if someone needs help or they want to do it themselves? They can't stop fighting a boss to let you know. If I see someone soloing a boss, I usually step in and help. Maybe I should stop doing that?

No, don't stop doing that. If they complain about leeching they're just an entitled brat - no reason to change your playstyle to appease someone being rude.

Some people want IC to be their own personal TelVar farming ground and resent anyone else there. Those people are jerks. Report them for the harassment they sent you and gather friends, guildies, or randos from overland to run as a group and show them they can’t bully people out of IC.

Bosses also drop monster helms. So if I see someone fighting a boss, damn right I'm going to jump in if I can.

Next time take screen shot of the harassment and report them.

I’ve heard players taking about leeching in Cyrodiil but not in IC.

Funny those same players complain that no one shows up when a keep is flagged, lol.

I tend to watch to check whether the player is actually managing with the boss or on the verge of death and, if the latter, help, otherwise leave alone. But I agree with everyone saying the player who called the OP a leech is a tool. Imperial City is a free for all. If people don't like that, they shouldn't play it.
