Player taking siege

Today I experienced a first playing for AD, had a player harassing me in chat from my own alliance about skills I was using, (volley) which wasn't actually me

He then proceeded to use my fire lancer and refused to get off firing it at nothing letting it run to nothing

was a (toxic) surreal experience.

Now imagine someone takes your cold harbour ballista or even worse lancer. PvP players are asking for a feature of kicking or locking own sieges from other players for a very long time. You could think that 9 years is enough to implement such basic functionality but...

    Say no to Toxic Casuals!
I am doing my best, but I am not a native speaker, sorry.

"Difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 9 years. 6 paid expansions. 24 DLCs. 40 game changing updates including A Realm Reborn-tier overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver&Gold as a "you think you do but you don't"-tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game." - @AlexanderDeLarge

Yes we’ve been asking for years for the option to lock down siege to the owner. It should be a toggle or something in the gameplay options, because there are some people who drop siege like litter specifically so others can use them.

It’s far too common for someone to take coldfire or lancers when the owner jumps off to repair or heal, and then won’t get off it. It’s far too common that someone jumps in the ballista you were using on a door and use it to fire at enemy players. It’s less common lately to have trolls on your faction taking people’s siege and turning it around, but that was a problem for a long time.

That was your first mistake, Not knowing how toxic it can be in the PvP environment. Take what anyone says to you with a pinch of salt in there, a lot of them are FTP players who don't care who they offend. Go offline and ignore the toxic ones, it makes the experience a little better.

This doesn’t help with the lancer issue.

They are rare enough to get, requiring a lead from Conquest daily board, and scrying and excavating. It’s bad enough when other players camp your siege if you had to spend AP to get it, but camping a lancer is a whole other level of trolling.

I sometimes abandon my oils to take up a cold fire ballista or lancer instead, and hope someone else will take up the oils. I can’t think of anyone ever dropping a lancer for anyone else to use, for the simple reason you can’t just go out and get a new one right away. Perhaps the lancers should be locked out to other users somehow. I have had a rare occasion that someone jumped on my lancer when I got knocked off the wall of a keep to keep the lancer from degrading until I got back, but that was probably only one or two times.

LTR, The OP mentioned he was harassed in chat. Also it does help to know first hand the environment you are playing in and to pick and choose the time you use your lancer. ZOS won't fix the problem despite the years of asking them too, especially on the lancer front. So if ZOS won't fix the problem then its best the OP knows what to expect and he can can choose when to use the lancer i.e., when a keep is being sieged from the outside, run into the inner keep and use it from the landing there, you can still kill players outside and be ready for them when they break the outer wall / door also it is less busy and when they break through, pick it back up again. So my advice was towards his whole post not just the lancer issue. again LTR.

Ask OP which he was more upset about, the zone chat or the lancer, I am certain the loss of a lancer was more upsetting.

Your advice is good for not losing a lancer to an enemy player to get burned, but placement is irrelevant if someone on your own team takes it and prevents you from using it.

The most toxic behavior (chat) I've ever been the recipient of in PvP was from a player in my own alliance. That was a long time ago and I'm not even sure if that player is still in the game.

Weird. I've been PvPing since day 1 of the game's release and I've never had an player steal my siege so long that it degraded to zero, and I'm pretty much the first one setting up counter siege at every keep battle I'm in.

I also don't get into pointless arguments in zone chat but instead immediately put trolls on Ignore rather than engage them, so YMMV.

It's hardly common on PS5 NA, I actually will drop 2 lancers and be my own artillery emplacement. If you could lock only lancers, I doubt somebody will drop 5 to troll and shoot them to keep them up just to take away 5 slots. That's just not sustainable. I've seen people fire my lancer after I got pulled off the wall to keep it alive for me, and give it up when I got back. I've kept the same lancers for weeks worth of engagements.

Agreed. It's obvious the OP experienced someone deciding to target them, likely due to a conflict that started in zone chat. Random people jumping my siege rarely happens and they never stay on for long.

My advice to people experiencing something like this is to report them and put them on Ignore. Engaging trolls NEVER works out in your favor, and often results in you receiving punishment from ZOS for your response to the troll.

This, now if I left the siege because I had to fight enemies attacking our siege line and he used them that is nice.
But then stick to it, if you are not on an good PvP build you are just at good at siege you are just as good if you hit the target.

This. It's pretty obvious why locking siege to a player isn't an option - if it was you'd have players placing the siege limit by themselves then locking it so that no one else can use it nor place siege of their own. It'd be a built in way for someone to completely ruin a keep fight all on their own.

This is a problem for sure, but it's not a common problem. More often than not someone using your siege is doing what we'd want them to do with it.

Just report the trolls that are aiming your siege away from objectives or ignoring your requests to get off your siege. They're trolling and violating the TOS by harassing you.

Good point. There are still trolls that will set up a ram behind a keep so players can't set up on on the FD. It's super annoying and people have been banned for it.

When 2 players try to use a piece of siege just have the game check who the owner of the piece of siege is and automatically give the owner priority (game kicks whoever else is using/trying to use it off in preference of the sieges owner).

Also make siege generate any AP they accrue with a 70/30 split between owner/user, owner gets rewarded for providing extra siege and user gets a smaller reward but no cost of providing their own siege equipment.

Regardless what you wrote in chat, if that happens again just report the player doing troll thing and they get added in your Ignore automatically. Trolls live on response, and say and do things only to produce their food, so better not feed em.

Yes it does. You get no AP from a siege weapon fired by another player.
