Why do you play alts?

Believe it or not I actually play alts because I enjoy them. They all have their own “flavor” and play a little differently.

Although, it is good to see that the “mule” is alive and well in 2023. God bless you guys still crafting without the bag nine years in. Not all heroes wear capes(and not in eso).

As for the guy that already has three Arcanists, put yourself on the heroes list too!

Playing the one character since beta? You’re a *** hero too!

I see no major difference in ESO classes. In the end, you'll use 2-3 class skills at most, so what's the point? .

I also like to look on the internet
for builds that have mostly class skills and try those builds. But I'm pretty casual.

All quests and character management get multiplied with each alt. On top of that, all races and classes can do the same thing in PvE, outside of score pushing.

I've been thinking about an arcanist class alt.

Sometimes I like to try something new. In the past I was more excited to do that but I really dislike the grind, getting way shrines etc. all of that even though I can usually get them to 50 pretty quickly during an XP event. It's really boring.
Since I generally Tank or Heal I find that having a couple of DPS is good in some of my guilds since someone else may want that role for a trial or the role is not open.
I used to run them through daily crafting but now I don't bother unless there is some event on that benefits me a lot.
My main does all the quest content and rarely do I run an alt through it again (maybe if I'm doing it with someone else so we get the same dialogs).
I play way way less more and more now anyway. I don't intend to make anymore alts except maybe as mules (I have a hoarding problem :) ) but only if I keep playing.
I have Necrom, but have no interest in making an Arcanist. All that green annoys me. In fact, I haven't even bothered to start Necrom yet TBH. Maybe over the winter. I only bought it because it was on sale.

    I have a theory.
    Some players = big kids.
    Some alts = toys.
    More alts = more toys.

I have the craft bag, plus all 3 inventory pets, plus all 8 storage coffers, and I still need to use my alts as mules. Not all inventory glut comes from crafting materials. In my case, it comes from runeboxes that don't stack, treasure maps that don't stack, crafting survey reports I haven't bothered to do yet, and an assortment of daily login rewards I haven't used.

This is me. In this game no. Have no interest in it whatsoever. I have no desire to waste my time doing the same things over and over with different classes and races. I like my Bosmer Nightblade and that's it.

Now, the only other MMO that I play, DCUO is another story, because I play alts on that game to experience every possible combo of powers, and other skills that I can across both the hero and villain factions. that interests me a whole lot more, and I just feel like there's a lot more variety there, and in ESO it just doesn't seem all that different.

Besides Different Roles, Different Classes, Stamina or Magic, Farming, Storage, Different Looks, Different Paths, Variety of Playstyles, no reason really to play an Alt.

I have 28 of them, spread across 10 Accounts.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I recommend trying Arcanist. It's fun.
I have a PvP stamina Bowcanist. And I'm currently making a Magicka Arcanist tank.

Arcanist tanking skills are the best.

Originally ZOS stole my one and only character and locked her up in Coldharbour for ages, had to make a new character just to play the game, 2nd was a dragon knight I had no idea how to play, 3rd was another nightblade I was happy with. 4th I needed a new character to run with some DC friends in Cyrodiil, another nightblade, although the AD dragonnight had finally escaped to go on a few adventures. 5th I decided a templar was probably easier to play than a nightblade or dragonknight, 6th I tried a sorc, which never went that well till recently. After that they were just created to carry all the stuff, since I never had ESO+ at the time. My main account had 18 characters for years, now they finally have 19 with space for another.

Then there was the space problem and storing stuff for guilds, since there was never enough space in the guild bank, I ended up with two more accounts, although they were never fully populated, they were just there for more storage for a fair while, then to sell more, to make more gold, so my main character on my main account could get all those expensive things she collects. My main character got locked up 2 more times over the years, last time she came back she was never really the same, but she is still my first character and I am never giving her up, I invested too much time and gold in her. I might now have 31 characters, but my first is the main one.

Maybe the title should have been 'why don't you play alts'...

..there are 20 character slots, 7 different classes, 10 different races, 3 bespoke mainstream roles, dozens of sub roles, a seperate PVP format which also has 3 bespoke mainstream roles, a deep character creation and fashion system and a huge variety of builds to discover, theory craft, try out and explore in many different scenarios. :)

Play different classes, because different classes feel different.
Play different roles without forking out for multiple armoury slots.
I enjoy the fashion side of the game and there more characters that look different, with varying themes to make outfits around.
Head-canon RP. I like to invent a backstory for my characters and how they fit into the world of ESO.

I do my best to not let my alts be too much of a chore. I just log-in once a day (or whenever I play), buy horse upgrade, do crafting writs, daily random dungeon and on my healers and tanks I do daily random BG up until the point of unlocking War Horn. I've built up a sizeable number of XP scrolls over the years, so by popping an XP scroll and doing the first daily rando, you get a lot of xp with a relatively small playtime on the character. And then outside of this I just play on my main or other characters that I've got set up decently. Do all my farming for gear for my new alt on characters that are already geared up and just bank it.

    Lots of reasons.

For one, to experience different races and classes. My main is a StamBlade Khajiit Tank from the old SapTank days pre-Morrowind nerfs. As much as I love her and still have fun with that playstyle, it can be slow and boring at times even in overland because tank. LOL So I made a few different "flavors" of DPS to mess around with - Altmer sorcerer, an Argonian Templar originally meant to be a healer and then converted to magicka DPS instead, stamina Necro Breton. I do have a Warden Breton healer build I'm trying to slowly work on as well. And recently added a new Bosmer Arcanist Tank who I am utterly falling in love with - made him the shortest elf possible both because you usually see short female Wood Elves instead of males among the player base and because I love the idea of a small but mighty tank like that. And he actually is pretty mighty, I must say, surprised even me after the build. Gave him the Librarian title because how can you not for an Arcanist shooting book beams around? LOL And that's another thing - other toons to give titles to and customize different outfit looks/color combinations.

Many of them were started but then set aside until I found builds for those ideas that I liked better than what I originally derped around with. So many largely sat as inventory mules and daily crafters for extra Anniversary Jubilee boxes. But as more equipment and sets and cosmetics have come out, I have started rebuilding and fleshing them out. I also have many collected personalities and cosmetics that don't "fit" my main, so each alt has gotten some instead and it gives them personality. So, it's also been a way to use some of the cosmetics/mounts/pets I have collected and don't use on my main.

It also gives companions an extra use as well because I have collected them all on my main, but some feel "meh" for her but would mesh well with an alt either because of imagined alt personality or to complement their class.

And something to do with all my houses - a few of my alts have enough personality in my head and fun to play that I have assigned them fitting homes that my main crafts the furniture for and the alt gets to place/decorate as they see fit.

PS5 NA. GM of The PTK's - a free trading guild (CP 500+). Also a werewolf, bites are free when they're available. PSN = DragonRacer13

In ESO, I have only one char, but in my main game, I have about 23 alts. The point in my case is, that for me, a char has a personality, and class/equipment/look are part of it. Once finalized, I don't like to change it, unless I really have no other choice.

So, instead of switching on same char between different equipment to do different things, I prefer to have one char for each of my activities (easily possible, because in this game, in store, we can purchase "max level booster" that raises us straight up to max level).
I'm out of my mind, feel free to leave a message... PC/NA

Different classes different races. And I am doing writs, so more chars, means more goodies in rewards.

What I don't like though, is that the alt becomes the same cp-level as your main, the moment you hit lvl 50.

And I don't like that a new char has access to cp-points from the very start. I'd like each and every char to gain cp for themselves, this way it is a greater variation i gaming. And more fun to play alts
