How is the Necrom story compared to previous DLC?

Hello,

For me, the story in the last few dlc was bad, they all were almost the same, just the actors have been replaced. A "world ending (or similar) situation, which only we can stop while dealing with annoying characters and asking stupid questions".

But I read some positive opinions about necrom and would like to hear your opinions.

It's Better than Blackwood and High Isle, which admittedly doesn't sound like high praise, but i really liked it. The whole story has an almost Mystery Solving vibe, similar to what they tried to make High isle, only this time it's not something a Crayon-swallowing toddler can figure out after 2 quests.

There is a Bit of the whole "World in danger" but you can honestly forget that at some points. I don't want to Spoil anything, but the last quest has an amazing pay-off to all the preceding ones setting up a mystery.

Probably the best since Elsweyr. There’s some juicy lore drops and the side quests help round out the narrative of the DLC.

I very much enjoyed the Necrom story, way better than the stuff we got in the years before. It might be my second-favorite storyline of any Chapter, behind Elsweyr. The issue with it is though that it ends on a cliffhanger and we have no idea when it gets continued due to the lack of a corresponding zone/story DLC in Q4.

Definitely! I just finished the questline, and it gripped me quite strongly at parts.

All true! The slow unraveling of the main mystery was paced well, so it held at least my interest and the reveal was surely weighty enough for all that time spent. I never saw that coming, and am now looking forward to the DLC to see how the story ties up. Besides, some boss fights were even somewhat hard for a lvl 20-something arcanist so that the NPC allies' aid was for once needful. That added to the experience.

This time the player character isn't portrayed as much an idiot as in the two previous chapters, which is a bonus. At some points you still have to ask stupid questions, but it's not as jarring as in Blackwood or High Isle (and they have to give that exposition somehow).

I also adore the way Leramil was designed as a character. Her eye-makeup made her face to give a slight hint of a disturbed/somehow slightly cracked mind, which fit the character well. And the voice acting was superb: The eerily detached cool tone interspersed with moments of more passionate utterance, the crisp diction, and of course the way the lines were written. A very good portrayal of an Altmer doing business with Hermaeus Mora, IMO.

Too bad I didn't get to hear some of the other NPC's voice acting because of the bug. I'd recommend playing the chapter only after that is fixed with update 39 (gotta do a replay after that, myself). That's a surprising flaw, and even more surprising ZOS hasn't corrected it immediately.

I do not like Azandar story. For me is absurd.

    Just one more question.

Tesman85 wrote, that the quests are bugged and some voice acting is missing, plus that it will be corrected with the next patch. Are many quests affected?

I really liked the Necrom story, definitely the best since Elsweyr.

Even the side quests are really fun. Stibbons, call back to Dragonborn, the "zoo" one, and more.

I definitely agree with others saying it's the best since Elsweyr. Still not the greatest. I didn't feel like I had to rush through this just to get it over with like I did the last two years.

Enough for me to suggest waiting for the fix to go live before going through the main quest.

I played the entire Chapter right after (console) launch and neither do I remember any major bugs nor missing voice acting (I didn't play with English language though, maybe that's why).

The issues started with a patch released after the chapter launch. So, if you did the entire thing in between the chapter launch and said patch, you would not have had those issues... and I am not entirely sure if this is affecting consoles. But it was enough of problem for me on PC to put the main quest progression on hold until the fix goes live.

There are still music bugs as well (lack of music + ambient) that will be fixed in the next patch.

And at launch a region had the wrong music (from deadlands) for weeks.

If you want an immersive experience best wait for the patch
