Why No Compass in Combat?

I’m not sure suggestion posts do much but here is another one to add to the bonfire… why does our compass have to go away during a boss fight? Can’t the boss bar be moved down a little bit? It’d be really helpful to be able to see cardinal directions for content such as HoF and GD. It’s bothered me for a long time but not enough to get an addon.

If this bothers you so much that you need to make a thread complaining about it, go get an addon

Haha fair enough. Just making a thread because it’s weird to me that it is set up that way and it’d help much more if everyone could see a compass for callout reasons rather than forcing everyone to use a compass addon. Only reason I’d use it really— for callouts.

Every time this is the answer I feel even worse for console players.

A guildie has a compass addon that goes around your crosshair so it's easy to identify direction in the middle of a raid. I haven't used it yet but he swears by it.

Yeah, I’ve seen that one before. I think there’s one that puts it off to the side and Bandits lets you have your usual compass at all times? Regardless, can’t rely on cardinal directions mid-boss fight unless everyone has a compass.
Minimaps are super helpful too to mark positions… I do use a minimap. Console players are the real epic gamers here.

i would agree with this, i dont use any minimap addons, or any other addons affecting the compass, and i agree it doesnt make sense that the boss hp bar covers up the compass

and like others said, addons while a solution, dont help console players

playing on console is for masochists

i use the compass tool found in the RDK addon, they have multiple tools but i prefer the one that is around the crosshair.

Yet Another Compass is the one included in RDK, I believe. It is available standalone.

Like all such suggestions (including things covered for some by addons), can we please be sure to ask for it purely as an option.

Sometimes I would agree but I don’t think a compass is something that needs to be optional. You already have it, it’s just turned off during boss fights for some reason. Same compass, just move the boss bar down a little bit to accommodate.

Edit: or make a boss bar/compass hybrid or squish them if that would take too much space.

Reference has been made to an addon showing a compass around the crosshair, if that was implemented as a base game addition then it should be optional.

Either way, if something is added that is purely optional then it being optional can never be to the disadvantage to those who want it, but it can be advantageous to those who don't want it.
