What roles and weapons suit each companion?

It was easy with base game companion classes.
Bastian - dragonknight, 1h+shield tank.
Isobel - templar, restoration staff healer.
Ember - sorcerer, lightning staff AoE DD.
Mirri - nightblade, bow single target DD.

2 dlc class companions are a problem for me, as they have a skill line for each role (DD, tank, healer).
Azandar - arcanist, but without laser.
Sharp - warden, has support buffs/debuffs, but their cooldown is long.
What roles suit them?

To be honest, although Isobel is a templar, and templars do not have a good reputation as tanks among players (though my main is a templar tank)... Companions are different, and I have heard reports that she makes an excellent tank with 1h+shield and heavy armour - probably better than Bastian, who is often highly regarded as a tank himself. Mind you, I've also seen her work well as a melee attacker *and* as a healer: ranged attacker (bow or destro) seems to be the least popular option with her.

There's not much doubt that Ember is definitely a destruction staff person who should stay at a distance.

Mirri... I'm using her with her starting bow, as a single target DD, in medium armour, as suggested above. She doesn't tank or heal so well, and is a bit fragile in melee, so a distance attacker is best for her.

Although Bastian starts with a destro staff, using him as a sword and board tank seems to be more popular in fact, he's more sturdy up close. I'm actually personally making use of him as a bit of a hybrid - a melee 2H attacker but in heavy rather than medium armour (to keep him alive at close range - for me he's not so much a tank as a survivable second target to take some of the heat off) and with a self-heal - but am not sure this is the best use of him.

    Meanwhile...

Sharp-as-Night - a Warden - starts off as a dual wield melee attacker. I am not sure whether this is the best role for him but it seems a good one to me. I'm training him with all weapon and armour styles though, just in case - but then I've done that with all the companions.

Azander in fact has surprisingly few *attacking* skills among his class skills - he's going to have to use weapon skills if you want to use him as a dps. His starting gear is restoration staff - I suspect that Healer may actually be his best role, but this seems like a gut feeling to me rather than having any proof. I've also had some success with him tanking, but as a healer... well... he's kept my lightly-armoured magicka characters alive while they solo a world boss, which is about as good as you can expect from a healer companion.

I hate ranged weapons because of the roll dodge problem. Bastian (7 shattering/5 aggressive medium) and Isobel (12 quickened medium) use two-handed, Sharp-as-Night (7 shattering/5 aggressive light) and Mirri (12 quickened light) are dual-wield, Ember (12 focused light) has ice staff, and Azandar (12 quickened heavy) is my healer/tank with one-hand and shield.
