Hey, my friend was kind enough to gift me it, so far it seems quite interesting, disappointed to see no summons, quite miss by ZOS not to feature summons like Lurkers or Seekers.
Anyways moving on, I'm a ranged player, what would you recommend for solo play? Bow or Destruction Staff? I'm not good at melee so that's not a option. My previous classes was Sorceror & Necromancer, both magick

I think people are going for destruction staff, lightning or inferno I'm not sure. If you use velothi's amulet it might be worth it to use daggers frontbar anyways and just hold them. Arcanist class spammables are ranged.

i suggest lightning staff especially with the change to the Ancient Knowledge passive that will increase damage done with channeled effects in update 39. which is useful for the arcanist beam

    1. Personally I'm happy to see a new class without summons. Before Arcanist, all new classes had at least 1 summon, so it's good to have a more standard class in that way.
    2. Lightning staff, pillars of nirn, deadly, velothi ur amulet, and 1 piece slimecraw. it's stamina, mid range. You use Flail and not Runeblades to build crux, and you don't need to be in melee, just be close enough to hit with Flail and beam.

I agree, i was playing an was thinking for race i would love to see a Dremora race, a class that's focused on bound weapons, dremora summons i.e skyrim conjuration would be awesome, sure we have the sorceror but i mean a pure conjuration class that's focused around as the community calls it, pets. from skeletons, temp spirits inhabiting a dead body for a short while to even the mighty dremora lord

I play it as semi-ranged. Basically stay in the range of the flail. I prefer daggers for the crit, but run the Mage Amulet because its very difficult to do a traditional LA weave with the beam, as you constantly have to stay out of melee range to avoid having the beam interrupted and to avoid damage while beaming

i really like pets, but most pets are really disadvantageous in this game, mainly because their dmg is not great (or in blastbones case clunky and buggy) and they take up a skill slot, not to mention cannot trigger any procs from your gear

out of all the pets, i think the warden bear, or companions are the best pets (companions dont take up a skill slot, have customization options, and can be used on any character)

my arcanist right now is using bow/bow, im still kind of figuring out the skills a little bit but i can generally do all of my dmg from 20 meters away pretty comfortably, definitely with a heavy focus on beaming

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

feel free to stop by and use the facilities

fair enough, they need to do more damage, like how skyrim did pets or dragon age's temps did do good damage.
