How do you turn on Quest HINTS, NOT quest tracker or icons

Basically the title. I asked in the player help section and no one seems to know. I'm on PC and my friend who is also on PC wants hints to help them when I"m not online and can't figure out how to turn them on. Can someone please help?

So basically I"m looking for how to turn on the grey text that appears on the quest tracker under the white text, that gives you hints on how to complete the quest. I have the quest tracker and I have the quest icons on the compass. I'm not talking about them. I have it, have had it for years before I added addons so I know it's not because of an addon. Does the turn on not exist anymore? I don't know.

So you had no addons before and now you have them? How do you know it's not an addon affecting the quest tracker's layout?

What I meant was:
- you previously had no addons, and you had quest hints
- now you have addons, and you have no quest hints

So isn't it possible an addon has somehow redone the quest UI and removed the hints? I'm only trying to help, by suggesting this as a possible cause to investigate.

Not every quest has hints. In fact, rather few of them do.

The easiest way to check would be the daily Provisioning writ, which is the only one of the daily writs that comes with a hint. If you look at that in the quest journal (or have it set as the active quest), you should see it.

If you don't see it, it may be hidden by some addon you have installed. I don't know any addons that are designed to do that, so if it affects you then you may need to just go through your addons until you find the one hiding them. One of the addons may have it as an old version bug or a setting.

Ah! No I still have quest hints. My friend who's never had them wants to turn them on but we can't figure out how.

I'm pretty sure there is no such thing.
Some quests do occasionally give you a hint, but I'm pretty sure there is no way to control when or if you get hints.

Some games ( like gw2 and wow) will give out quest hints either written out or as some other methods. That makes it easier for players who maybe new, have difficulty understanding the quest, or finding quest related objectives and stuff for quests. The quest hints are also optional in those games (depending on what the quest is).

In eso there aren't much quest hints. Only a small few have them.

There has to be because I have them, my friends husband has them but she does not get them. And actually there are quite a few quests that have hints for them. My friends and I play together almost every night and we run across quest hints frequently. It's just a pain because she never knows the hint and is running around where as myself and her husband know where to look.

Secondly, I'm bummed that there isn't a better answer. My friend and her husband have all the same addons but he has hints and she doesn't. We thought it was because she failed to turn them on. If there is no way to turn them on, why would her set up be different?

I'd suggest them to double check the settings for the add-on(s) in question, it might be possible that there's something they missed.

Pay particular attention to large, UI changing addons, like bandits. These are the ones that change the UI the most and probably have the highest chance of an issue. Also make sure you're comparing the same quest, at the same stage. Some don't have hints, or won't show hints for some quest stages.

I checked and none of us have UI addons so that's good. We are comparing the same quest at the same stage. We play together on certain characters and while her husband and I will have quest hints, she doesn't. It's a mystery that looks like it'll never get solved! lol. We did try turning off ALL addons for all three of us and comparing and she still doesn't have hints.

@Nairne70 Is it possible her laptop gamma settings are off, either too low or something, and your friend just can't see the darker text on her screen?

EDIT: Meant to say computer, not laptop.

No her husband set up their computers at the same time. He does all the addons and adjustments. Both their computers are the same.
