NPC babble in chat window

Recently started eso again and everywhere I go NPC chatter is filling up the chat box. I cant play like this as I dont even notice messages from guilds and friends. I have toggled off NPC in Options and turned off NPC subtitles. The messages are showing up like whispers from players and wont stop. Is this a bug?

    Check the settings for the chat tab. I think there's an option there to output NPC dialogue into the chat box, and you can toggle it there.

    You said Options; did you mean the Options under the chat window's gear icon? That should do it, I think.

    Are you using any add-ons?
    I've fought mudcrabs more fearsome than me!

    Right click the word "Chat" and uncheck everything you don't want to see in that tab, and check everything you do.

    I dont see that option. Just an option to toggle NPC, which is set to off

    Yes, doesnt work. That does disable NPC chat when speaking to them directly. My problem is that all ambient NPP chatter is taking up space in my chat window

    NPC is unchecked and their conversations still show up in the chat box. Maybe this is a bug

    The text appears to be coming from an add-on you have installed (as the NPCs and their lines are in different colors), but I can't remember which one does this. Try going through your add-on settings or test all of add-ons one-by-one.

    That's what I was thinking, too, but I have zero familiarity with add-ons and wasn't sure if there's a way to set the color for NPC text in the standard UI.

    Turned off all add-ons and issue went away. Thank you for suggestion! Now to find out which one is the culprit...

    I don't see there an option to set it off 🤔

    The only thing I could do was set NPC chat color to a dark color so it doesn't show up as easily as others. At least it doesn't show up in the chat window popup. I still don't get why there is no option to turn it off.

    No, apparently PC has this option but console was not worthy.

    I know you've fixed the original problem now but I wanted to say another thing that might be useful for you is setting up dedicated chat channels for different things.

    I have one for each of my guilds which only shows that guilds chat, and a 'group' one with /say, /yell, /party and /tell which I use in dungeons and things. That way if I want to focus on a particular conversation or just don't want interruptions from what I'm doing I can quickly switch to the relevant one.
