Would war maiden be good for an arcanist?

Wanting to put a decent easy to farm set and taking ideas.

I already have the velothi amulet and the rune carver blaze set.

Would war maiden go well with that

order's wrath might be better to pair with runecarver

bonus is that since runecarver is a light set and order's wrath is crafted you can focus on what armor passives you want (medium vs light, medium grants more damage but light grants more pen, up to a point). using sets like war maiden or soulshine take away this choice and lock you into light-only sets, which is probably ok for dungeons but for the biggest damage in overland content you'll likely want sources of breach + medium armor

Would work? Yes, but would not buff Wall of Elements, Scalding Rune, Tentacle Slap or secondary explosion of Fulminating Rune so it will be inferior to something like Order's Wrath. Personally I'd suggest Deadly Strike, can be bought from traders but a bit expensive nowadays.

I'll just say you really don't need light armor for Arcanist due to its passives. I'm using light armor at the moment and having 12k penetration is silly.

Agree with @robpr. I run Deadly Strike and it is great for Fatecarver and Rune. Leviathan or Mother's Sorrow could be other alternatives to Order's Wrath as well.

I tried it when Arcanist came out. Deadly + Pillars does, by far, WAY more damage than either Deadly + War Maidens or War Maidens + Pillars. I average 55k dps on the 3m dummy with pillars + deadly, but got about 35/40k with war maiden's + either of the other two. A pretty big difference NGL.

I'd recommend keeping war maidens on Templar if you're gonna use it. It's still pretty good there.

im running full medium armor on an arcanist and im sitting at about 7500 base pen, and im using a bow without the +pen trait

most mag toons i think can get to about 10-12k pen pretty easy with full light armor

if i changed my weapon on my stam arcanist to be a mace with the +pen trait i would be sitting at about 13k pen

i went with wood elf for the race too, which is even more pen lol

so i have like 950 pen from wood elf, 700 pen from CP, ~3000 pen from the arcanist passive, and then ~1500-2000 more pen from set gear

Not gonna lie, Runecarver is pile of wet bovine excrements compared Deadly Strike or Order's Wrath. It is difficult to get decent damage out of it. Ironically, that is especially so on the Arcanist.

War Maiden can be considered A-tier for the Magicka Arcanist. Order's Wrath and Deadly Strike are S-tier for both Magicka and Stamina Arcanist. If you ever want to switch, you should avoid War Maiden.

Pillar is always great, whatever you play. But it is a dungeon set, instead of craftable, overland or purchasable at Guild Traders. Depending on your access it may be best to just do Deadly and Order's Wrath.
If anyone here says: OH! But, PVP! I swear I'll ...

Thank you for the valuable input and respectfully recommend to discuss that aspect of ESO on the PVP forum.

runecarver requires many dots going at once (since it procs on every 3rd tick of every dot you have going, obviously faster dots will get more ticks and show more dps)

i am using it on a magdk setup with like 8 of my 10 skills being dots and i can still manage pretty decent dps from runecarver

the only way i could see it working on arcanist is if you put a lot of dots on the target before you started beaming, it should tick from the beam itself too, but if your only really using the beam itself, runecarver will be sub par compared to some of the other sets listed

that style will be available to be earned in game after its featured in the crown store this month (or if you really really really wanted it you could buy it from the crown store, but i would recommend against buying anything from the store thats earnable in game)

Lol good sir or madam, I am a whale. I'll buy anything just cause. Heck I bought the dead keeper motif cause I didn't wanna farm it.

I work all day and have a farm and family. I don't have time to farm literally anything in this game.

i didnt want to assume anything which is why i still included the option to buy it from the crown store the moment its available lol

i personally wouldnt want to waste my money on something i can earn in game (or buy with gold from guild traders)

edit: double checked and august 23rd is when this style is being released to be bought, or earned in game

Yeah, that's the question, isn't it? Fatecarver is a channel, not a DoT. So Runecarver shouldn't proc from it. Am I wrong?

Irrelevant of that it is a bad idea to overload your Arcanist with DoTs. At some point more DoTs will take away DPS, instead of adding it, because it has a detrimental effect on the uptime Fatecarver.
And that is something you definitely not want.
And so, whatever Runecarver can theoretically brings to the table, it is never enough to compensate the downtime of Fatecarver.

fatecarver is both a channel and a dot (it gets buffed by deadly)

with fatecarvers tick rate (0.3 sec), it would proc runecarver effectively 1 time per second, which generally speaking is a lot faster than most dots can proc it (since it only procs every 3rd tick, but the dmg isnt super super high)

the reason most classes would have to focus on a lot of dots is because the tick rate of most dots is so slow (1 sec dots trigger the proc every 3 sec, 2 sec tick rate dots only proc it every 6 sec)

the base dmg of runecarver is very low (i think the base unscaled dmg is around 210, so with scaling you would see about 1200-1500 non-crit dmg), but there is no cooldown on the proc, since its limited to every 3rd tick (so more dots = more procs)

an arcanist (and to some extent a necromancer) might be able to get away with fewer dots in the rotation to still proc runecarver fairly often because they have skills which have faster tick rates (necromancer tether ticks every 0.6 sec, almost twice as fast as 1 sec tick rate dots, or a proc every 1.8 sec)

i dont think runecarvers set is totally bad for arcanist, due to the tick rate of fatecarver, but i dont know how much dps it would add compared to something like deadly (since deadly also boosts every tick of every other dot you would use, it would be better than runecarver in that regard)
