What is the best class for tanking ? (2023 Edition)

Hi there,

I know most guides state the best classes for tanking are DK and Warden.
I have myself been playing a DK tank for the first years, until I struggled on other activities and decided to turn him into a stam dd.
I gave a serious try at other classes tanking lately, and have mixed feelings, so I 'm asking your opinion.

IMO
DK have a nice kit, but need to build for extra regen, which limits potential buffs.
Warden skills are great but feel clunky or delayed.
Necros need to aim at the ground to place most skills, which is an absolute no-go with my playstyle.
Sorcerers and Templars are fine but feel a bit off compared to others (picking from DD and healers tools for tanking doesn't really bring something in the party).
NB have a surprisingly nice toolkit and easy access to most useful AoE debuffs, except breach.
Haven't tried Arcanist yet, but the toolkit seems great.

It depends. Dungeon pugs? Necro’s good because of necro res. Dungeon premade groups? I’ve heard Arcanist is good, not sure why. Trial main tank? DK. Trial off tank? Necro.

But it doesn’t really matter what the best class is, it matters what your class is. Don’t try to force yourself to use the “best” class… try them out and see what you like. I’ve tried DK multiple times but just can’t get into it. I find myself using sorc, necro, and arcanist.

you can get breach from pierce armor so nightblade can just use sword and shield to get breach.

choosing a class you enjoy playing is more important than the best especially as some classes can be better in some situations but if you don't enjoy the class it'll be harder to tank.

i like tanking with all classes though warden, necro, and arcanist are my favourites

arcanist is easy to use when you start tanking with it having its own taunt and a few damage shields.

and those three classes each have a skill line that is designed to be used for tanking, the passive skills definitely help.

DK still #1 in my book. Tanking on a DK feels like easy mode compared to tanking on anything else. Although I will say this, my Templar offtank is way more versatile and brings different capabilities to the table.
