NB and Sorc dps absolete in pve?

Started thinking the other day about classes and their builds. Seems like all classes beside sorc and nb offer substantial aoe damage with no penalty to st. Whereas these two classes suffer greatly in the air department.

This is mostly talking about high end content. I know any class can clear most things. But the benefits of Dk, Arcanist, Necro, warden and templar seem far greater

not played a HA sorc then i guess lol, thats like the pinnacle of both single target + aoe dmg lol

in terms of the buffs, NB can proc minor savagery for the group, and provide speed/sustain with refreshing path (NB healers are actually very popular right now)

NB definitely doesnt have the best options for aoe dmg, as their class skills only offer a few aoe attacks and rely on weapon abilities for the rest

a "classic" sorc i think has a decent balance of single target and aoe, they have a good ground dot in the lightning tree, a good armor + aoe dot in the same tree, and burst dmg from daedric mines to hit multiple enemies (since they nerfed this so a single enemy is immune to the mines for a couple sec after taking dmg)

One or the other can add minor savagery/prophecy to group, but a healer blade can do that in addition to pathing. High single target dps doesn’t seem as helpful in newer content, and they just nerfed nightblade AOE by fixing their 10% damage buff to active use of concealed weapon

Having mana and Stam nb, stam sorc:

Stam sorc is top solo target with decent aoe for now.(pet, hurricane, arena weapon) but not the best.

Ha sorcs ( and other has) just meh.


Nb due incap buff have good solo target ( but not enough to be useful)
But with concealed weapon "buff" aoe damage became some clunky to use.
With some kit (master gs, carve) stam nb can have good cleave though

Anyway it s easier for ppl just take arcanist, dk, necro, warden, even plar (meh)

NB maybe, but every group should have one sorc dps providing minor prophecy while dropping atros on cooldown for the group major berserk. A lot of high end groups are putting the sorc in MK. NB dps has been dead for a long time in meta groups, but that doesn't mean you can't bring one in older content or regular vet runs.
