Unpopular Opinion: I can see ESO having a “”monster hunter”” mechanic

ESO is my farvourite game, ever. And I love it not because it’s focused on the ES lore (which happens to be my favourite lore of all fantastic universes) or because of the tryhard, high-end content (there are better MMOs that do that), or because of the high quality content (single player games often deliver a better, more refined experience). What I love in ESO is the sense of comfyness, of receptiveness, of ease of living. Think about other games that explore the MMO genre (or even the micro online genre - 2-4 people): most of them appeal to extreme competitiveness and, somewhat, “growth addiction” (endless farming, vertical progression, obsolescense of old gear). ESO, on the other side, focus on horizontal progression, different level players inclusion, freedom to choose activities/style of play. It’s also worth pointing that the dev team nails every single system they create and they show a lot of creativity and effort into making diverse, fun stuff that add (not substitute) the main activities (farming, questing, pvp and pve). Scrying and digging, ToT, companions, surveys, crafting writs (to name a few).
I strongly believe it’s now time to *start thinking* about a monster hunter activity. Find out information about said monster, track them down, capture, use them to either aid you in small tasks or battle other monsters. It does not have to be childish. WoW has a great example of this mechanic. Monster Hunter World also.
Making these rare monsters roam Tamriel (and beyond) would make people want to revisit old zones (just like ToT, psijic and scrying did), would attract a very specific niche of players, would make people more enticed in keep playing the game. And no, it does not have to be tied to the Crown Store. Neither of the old systems did that. Why would it be the first time?
And it shouldn’t be next year’s gimmick. The 10th anniversary should hold something way more epic. I like to think this monster hunter thing as an occasional 13th year expansion. When people are not expecting anything at all, there comes this “extra”. Many people might dislike it at first, but after further inspection find love of it. Just like ToT! I even imagine it being Hircine related! You receive a quest from the Daedric Prince himself to hunt down and capture these exotic, extra rare beasts that escaped from his realm. And maybe you could craft armour to them? That would be the icing in the cake.

I don't think your opinion is really unpopular. Sure, if we are talking about pets, it would be necessary to introduce the option to hide other players pets before implementing such a feature. But otherwise more systems/minigames are definitely welcome.

Overland difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 9 years. 6 paid expansions. 24 DLCs. 40 game changing updates including One Tamriel, an overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver & Gold as a "you think you do but you don't" - tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game. I'm bored of dungeons, I'm bored of trials; make a personal difficulty slider for overland. It's not that hard.

Anything that gives a reason to revisit zones is a good idea. I know we have dailies, but it's the same old sets that some of us have been doing for years. They need something like the radiant AI in Skyrim (and today, much more sophisticated tools are available for this) to generate quests, so they can make use of the the numerous zones, delves, locations, etc. They have so much they can work with. Your suggestion is good. A bounty hunting guild would be great (hunt NPCs). More quests for the existing guilds. Etc.

I would get right behind the push for another guild of some type. But the last 2 (Psijic and Antiques) have been a bit of a grind so something more engaging, like monster or bounty hunting would be appreciated.

I wouldn't bother with it myself but I don't see any reason it shouldn't happen.
