Dev Response to Tri-Focus Bug?

Are we allowed to use this? Because I have build ive been holding off on using as I don't want to exploit this.

If leveraging Tri-Focus passive off NPC's in PvP is not exploiting, I would like some clarification.

Why would they specifically make this ability if you could not?
    Resonating Glyphic
Summon an Apocryphal glyphic, which you and your allies can damage. The glyphic spawns at 70% Health and grows stronger the more you damage it. The glyphic grants up to 200 Weapon and Spell Damage and heals you and your allies around it for up to 958 Health every 1 second in proportion to its Health.

Dealing damage to the glyphic powers it up instead of healing it.

Maybe someone could clarify about this skills usage in PVP?
    Thanks!

funny, this seems to come up every PVP event. this feels like the PVP equivalent of a PVE player standing in red and complaining that they died.

splash damage is basic in the game. it is not an exploit.

don't want to take splash damage? then don't stand next to other ppl, NPC or otherwise.

calling spash damage an exploit is hyperbolic and baiting.

The problem is that the Empowered damage is being passed on to players. Empower and similar benefits (like Storm Master’s extra heavy attack damage) are explicitly not meant to be applied to players. Yet here they are through a mechanism that follows the letter of the tooltips but not the spirit of the buffs as stated by the devs.

Last I knew, someone on the forums claims the devs “are aware” of the issue. Just because they don’t address it or fix it in a timely manner doesn’t mean something’s not a bug in their eyes. See Jee-Lar. Or the fact that resto staff had no skill books for 9 years while destro had ten.

If you read the tool tip you will see this is not intended and is, in fact, a bug. It's a long standing bug that appears to be one of many ZOS isn't prioritizing a fix for. The problem is taking advantage of this bug could be considered exploiting, so people aren't sure what to do about it. Pleading ignorance to exploiting when action is taken against the exploiter has never worked in the past, and it probably won't work in the future.

Got 20k splash ticks in block today at my pvp-oriented character with 30k resists.
Was busy killing boss in IC and didnt notice a HA master with 20k HP on top. He did a couple strong and very skillful charges into boss and wiped 4 ppl :D

    Pls fix

And those are weak procs of Tri-Focus you can hit for way more.

I guess if you are in range of this splash damage you can’t hide in plain sight 🫣 😉

Thats usually the only way to get ZoS to fix things. Its also the only time I release my personal builds. I might leak a build that pump's Tri-Focus passive to it max, just so it finally gets fixed.

I don't think there's any realistic way using a lightning staff on its own in IC or Cyro could be considered an exploit. I used one today for my IC daily—even with some players around—and I'm 0% afraid of any consequences. It should be fixed, but I think it's too overarching to be an exploit.

I think it's too common, fundamental, accidental, and unspecific to be an exploit. Punishing all lightning staff users would punish a lot of random people. It's like if Roll Dodge restored health as a bug. Roll dodging couldn't then be an exploit.

My point is I wouldn't worry about not using a lightning staff as part of your regular build atm.

    Greetings,

After review we have decided to move this thread to a category we think is more appropriate for this topic (Combat and Character Mechanics).

    Thank you for your understanding.

A bug thread is moved to "combat and character mechanics"? Seriously?

    Well. There's your answer then. It's not a bug. It's a mechanic.

not necessarily, mod actions do not speak on behalf of ZOS, they just do their best to categorize topics and keep the peace.

They want it moved off the front page, so brings less attention.

They shouldn't be punishing players, they should be disabling the passive until they have an actual fix and fix it. if they can, only disable it in PvP until fixed. The bug is well over a year or more old at this point. Its been known by the devs as unintentional and they still have not fixed it. Klllswithiching something when a bug is present is common for games, except for ESO, where bugs remain for years.

Its not acceptable. This is major issue with game and company. Game breaking bugs go for years. Stuck In Combat Bug is a 9 year old bug.
