What is the status of the re-architecturing of the game code?

Last December (12/2022), we were told that

"Our [your] multi-threading work continues, as we announced a month or so back. Just to remind everyone, this is the initiative that will result in better overall server performance. As we already announced, we will be phasing these changes in over the course of 2023, starting with the Chapter in Q2. We’ll keep everyone updated in patch notes going forward."

I didn't see any updates in the Scribes of Mora or the Necrom patch notes.

I believe the re-architecturing was first talked about December of 2021 and then brought up again December of 2022.

Here is the article from 2022.

They also mentioned that they wanted to wait for all the refreshed hardware to be in place because it would be problematic to optimize for old hardware. I think the hardware was delayed on several occasions so I am guessing that also delayed the code rewrite. Maybe we will get an update when the Q3 stuff hits PTS, since that Update is supposed to be bug fixes and QOL only with no new content. If ever there were a perfect opportunity to finally pull the trigger on this...

ZoS' "better communication" reminds me of the blank pages in government publications that say "this page intentionally left blank". Come on ZoS', you vowed on the bones of Shor that you would improve communication yet have communicated nothing on this topic for a year.

Much to the chagrin of patch note critics, ZOS has been implementing the code each patch without announcing it. Sneaky, right?

I'm not sure I understand the point you're trying to make. Before retiring I had over 30 years in software development including architecture and design. Every project had a schedule and ship date. At any given time I could have provided status as to where we were on the schedule and if behind what it would take to get back on schedule or negotiate new dates. I don't expect that type of granularity as a player but ZOS did commit that they would be rolling this out in 2023 and would inform us via the patch notes when they rolled out performance related changes. Being 6 months into 2023 and no sign of a roll out I see nothing wrong with asking if things are still on schedule. After all the performance changes originally were going to come out in 2022 until ZOS said they were bigger than anticipated.

Isn't fall 2023 already a revised completion date?

I've also been wondering about this.

@ZOS_Kevin @ZOS_GinaBruno Do either of you have any updates to share regarding this? The last update we were given indicated that the first part of this project would be releasing with/during necrom.

It might be but I haven't seen anything published to that effect (not to say it isn't out there).

Well, there are new bugs, lag, disconnects, skipped standards (Necrom released with unintended prebuffing in the new class) and so forth. So they have definitely been adding new code in the background.

There have been a few articles about how the code restructuring and optimization were what what made it possible to add the arcanist class.

Whatever they did for that, it certainly has not helped performance which is what we are discussing. Which is what they said they were addressing
