My problem with Arcanists' Neon Green

Had to get someone else to take these for me.
The first 3 are normal settings and show where my biggest problem is re:
"5 mins in pvp against Arcanists gave me a 3 days migraine"
The super super bright neon green at beginning and end of their beams.
The neon green in circles and shields don't help, just not as bad.

After spending several hours making new colour profiles outside of game, the best I can do and it requires me wearing my Raybans to play.
fmhnpvbz58kb.png
After looking at the last one, I tried Accessibility settings and went Black and White.
This doesn't require me wearing Raybans, just pretending the year is 1960.
Is asking for a slider or control of colours of spells, or toggle to turn off ALL others spell effects really to much.
It would just be an optional User Interface setting requiring no taxing of Zos servers (no checks).

And no the existing slider doesn't do anything, as you can see from the images above.
I already have it set to very bottom.

I agree. We need a way to change animation colors. Not just for Arcanist. I Tank a lot and it's so difficult to even see the target(s) now with all the animations from all the various skills/sets/monster procs etc.

I don't get headaches, nothing like that. I just can't see what I'm doing. LOL

Yep. There is just so much green and it is all over the place. If it was more translucent, I would appreciate it. But with 4-6 people laser-beaming away, its hard to know what the heck is going on

Interesting the neon green causes a migraine for you. I have migraines too and use a specific neon light created by Harvard's Dr. Rami Burstein, PhD. Green light has smaller wave lengths and is way less stressful to the optical nerves vs blue and red light.

Migraine triggers are different for everyone. Blue light also supposedly reduces migraine intensity according to some studies, but for me it strains my eyes severely and can cause a migraine.

Is your neon green light as bright as in the images and do you look directly at it, constantly while it flashes on and off?

Yea my doc and me have both read studies saying green had less effect causing migraines in "some" people.
Even saying green could help "some" people, in study samples of 28 people..
    The key word "some".
Neon green is a no go colour for me.
I can also see why other people have issues with the other neon colours in game.

Not asking for the devs to nerf the "pretty colours"
I'm just asking for my control of what I myself see.
Many other games already do this.

I'd definitely appreciate an option to toggle the vfx completely off or if that's not possible then at least an option to change the color to something less bright.

They already quickly patched the crux as people complained about motion sickness. I dont think they need to make any more changes especially with color/light sensitivity. Its great if raybans are working, lots of other people wear special light filtering glasses when playing. You can also change your monitor/screen color settings, or if on PC, look at downloading a reshade addon and customizing colors.

Why can't arcanist spells change colors slowly(have iridescent/holographic animations) when casted?

Think about how cool that will look.

I don't get migrane, but saw 3 arcanists at a dolmmen today (xbox launched 2 days ago).
Found it extremely distracting, not just the beam, but also these rings of letters circling around them.
They are so dominant, that you cannot avoid that your eyes focus on those rings instead of enemies.

I admit that the animations look gorgeous and would be perfect for a single player game, but in a multiplayer game they are a very bad addition, as long as they cannot be toggled invisible by other players.

I think they should put in a toggle.

As it is, they've already reduced beam intensity and I don't like that the runes are now sluggish.

While I get motion sickness from other games, I haven't in this one, and while i would never ask to change a game for my benefit I think the toggle is a smart choice so as to avoid resentment against those who experience it; as there is surely a fathomably equal number of people who Do enjoy the Arcanist graphics for what it is.

I’m imagining the one person on the dev team who was like “This is great, beautiful work and cool concepts, but what do you think of toning it down just a little? Same basic design but a little less busy and a little more translucent?”

      You know this transpired. 😁

I tried Black and white mode using my computers Aceessibilty settings.
As I said in original post, while it did solve my issue I'd have to pretend it is 1960

So asking for a very simple in game control --that actually works-- is in fact too much, in your opinion.
Instead I should go to third parties and download more software that may or may not do the job.
Colour profile changes did relatively nothing for the super bright neon artifacts burning into my retinas.
The only thing that has in fact worked is playing in black and white.
Choosing between black and white and moving on to a game that does in fact have these simple controls is a relatively easy choice, I will be making soon.

Or you could try to avoid arcanists:

      "lfg <insert dungeon name here>"
      "any arcanists in the group?"
      "yep"
      "i'll skip this one, then"

I've been avoiding twilights (and now arcanists) for some time, because I like to enjoy the scenery and ambience of Tamriel, and they both ruin it. Although in the case of the twilights it's not because they don't fit in the world, but there are just far too many of them. Adding a display toggle to hide other player's combat pets and/or flashy effects would fix this, unfortunately our pleas for this seem to be ignored :(

As vsrs said, you can just choose what content you play in. Dont stay in areas that are triggering. You have sunglasses, you have a black and white option. I think choosing what is best for your health is the best thing to do.

I pretty much only do housing because of migraines and this has worked for me for years.

      Looks good.

The state of ESO in 2023 or is it 1960.
For want of a spell effect control or toggle that works.
Funny too because they keep claiming effects are to get people to not focus on UI tools like buff counters.
So much information, so easily seen....

I see absolutely no problem with this, you should be using computer glasses anyway on PC. You could turn down the color on your monitor also.

Not expecting such features from ZoS anytime soon, might this be useful to the OP? It's basically a colour overlay created by your GPU.

I just made an Arcanist this evening, and while I mostly like the animations and even the sounds of the abilities, the neon green ( especially the Crux triangles ) gives me a headache.

I find the triangles really obnoxious, and I was left wondering why they chose that particular design for the floaty whatever things, instead of choosing something like small Arcane symbols instead. I feel like that would have suited the class a bit better than hard angle triangles.

I'm a bit sick of laser beams all over the place, like a lot of people apparently, but they wouldn't be so bad if they weren't so bright and not such a sickening neon green.

I'd like a toggle for the triangles and other stuff too. That way the people who do want to shoot lasers can still do so.

I don't like the colour palette of the arcanist skills either, but what I mostly mind are the visuals themselves, they're just too intrusive. The other day I was in a dungeon with 3 arcanists beaming, and it was really tiresome on the eyes. I wish there was a way to tone them down. I generally don't like the influx of flashy visuals that we've been getting on mounts and now the new recall action--do the people who design them actually play the game, because it makes you wonder how they don't realize having a sudden flash of light filling up your whole screen can be very annoying, and also potentially harmful.

The worst thing about it is that the only player who can't see it is the caster. I basically never know whether my fate carver is running or not without looking at the countdown which I assume is generated by some addon or other.

Are you playing in first person? On my arcanists, the book and beam are quite visible to me - in third person.
