Best way to Level in ESO?

Disinterests
I have seen as many as 10+ Lvl 40s or higher.

Best way to level is just questing? I have been doing a bit of PvP but not to much xp in it. Any suggestions? Only Level 12 after 2 days lol

Many have levelled through AoE grinding, ee, running through area of mobs pulling loads and AoE'ing them down. However, keep in mind that rushing through the content like some have means that you will miss out on a lot, especially the extra skill points. Sure you can always go back but that would be equally boring for me personally.

Best? Depends on what you mean. Funniest? Just go around exploring and don't get stuck in the typical quest mentality from other MMOs. This doesn't work that way

I'm amazed that people are over lvl 40. There's effectively only 60 levels in the entire game.Never understood the need for speed leveling.

I am taking my time for once....enjoying the immersion, storyline, graphics, the world...
I do not want to level so fast that I come back to these forums just to whine that I have nothing to do at max level.

Apparently, the fastest method is AoE grinding in groups. Kind of brings back memories of the old Kunark/Velious days in EQ, AoE grinding in Old Sebilis with a couple of enchanters, a cleric, a puller and a couple of AoE classes (mage/wizard or druid).

Don't worry, just because some people have figured a method for attaining level 50 in less than 24 hours, it doesn't mean the leveling experience for you will be any less rewarding. For the typical player, it will still take 50 or more hours of questing to get there, and that can easily be stretched to twice as long, for a long, satisfying, story-heavy journey to level 50. Then you get to do it twice more (minus the main Molag Bal story) to get to VR10.

The world is a little too theme park for exploring to be much fun imo. Has anyone noticed monsters in dungeons give 1-3 exp? Normal, weak monsters of the same level give around 90. Things seem really messed up there.

So with dungeons out, you are left with grinding or wandering around questing. People say this isn't like a typical quest mmo, I have no idea why they say this. It's exactly like a typical questing mmo. This game uses the same theme park approach we've been seeing for years.

The best way to level, as you were told by other players here, is just enjoying the game. I'm playing with a friend (casual way kinda, since between work and studies we are probably 12-13hs away from our houses), and in the 30 minutes, or an hour, or 2 hours that we get to play we just explore, do some quests, kill monsters in the area, craft, collect items from nodes, etc. That's our best way to level up. Eventually, we will get to 50. No need to rush it.

Agreed; I didn't buy the game to do a speed run.
    Baskin Robbins always finds out.

Why even post in the thread if you aren't going to attempt to answer his question? Some people enjoy the low level being led by the nose theme park gameplay, some don't and want to move on.

There is also a difference between wanting to move onto the next area and doing a "speed run".

Saddened to see such short sighted responses here.

Leveling in ESO is more then just your core XP level. It is also your skill line experience. While your class and weapon skill lines raise naturally through combat and quest xp acquisition, others, such as the Guild and World skill lines, have completely independent methods of leveling. Mage Guild skill line, for example, is raised by reading books. If you want to learn and use Mage Guild skills, you better hit every bookshelf you can. Whacking monsters and questing won't help.

Fighter Guild on the other hand will only level by hunting daedra. Killing random wild monsters and questing won't help, only specific monster types qualify.

No point in rushing to end game before there is an end game. I'm leveling two characters in parallel. One pure combat and another crafting specialist so I dont expect to hit the level cap for a long time yet.

I don't really think clicking shards or lore books is really that much of an addition to the genre personally. It's more of an illusion of depth than any kind of meaningful content. Tying skill progress to collection quests isn't really that exciting imo.

Thanks for all of your feedback! I was just wondering how people were getting lvld up so freaken quick. I think I will just stick to questing, as I am in need of LOTS of gold and i enjoy the questing with a buddy.

I was thinking Zhen parties in PWI before the Frost days. Pull the mobs into 3 constant aoes with a mana battery (who doubles as a looter), and voila! 50 kills a minute.

From what I hear you can get into a big group in Cyrodiil and just do the "Kill 20 players" bounty quest over and over again.

I've been going from quest to quest along with getting map completion. I've been getting all of the 7% bonus to exploration on my armor that I can. I have a 20 nightblade, he's currently glitched so I started a dragon knight and I've already got him to 11. In most mmo's I rush to cap, this is the first mmo where I feel like I can take my time and really enjoy the story.

When I get tired or bored of questing in the world I hit up Cyrodiil for some PvP. PvP and exploring Cyrodiil is another great way of earning experience. There are repeatable PvE quests in towns inside Cyrodiil as well as PvP ones (ie kill 20 players) both of which give gold and decent experience.

The best way is to farm a dungeon in Cyrodil. You get loot, and xp - but this grind can be extremely tedious and boring. It isn't for the faint of heart. My guildie is up to level 42 today from doing this, he started at about 15 or so.

You sound to me like the type of person who just googles where skyshards and lorebooks are.
If you instead looked for them without being spoon fed results you might actually learn what an addition is?
Because from what I read you saying is that the only addition to this genre is more end game content.

You also said what is wrong with people wanting to go to the next area..
So what is the point of going to the next area? Is it so you can then go to the next area?
Im pretty sure you do not have to level up to go to the next area, as a level 7 I traveled to The Black Marsh, I knew I wouldn't be killing things or questing there, I wanted to see what it looked like, I also found useful Provisioning recipes and ingredients.

Speed leveling is not a way of playing the game, its a way of skipping the game.

I found quest grinding to be the best. And you wind up getting a lot of extra skill points and finding skyshards which are always helpful.

Immersion is the best way to level. I hit 20 before I even realized... it has taken me since sunday tho. TES has always been about story telling and becoming absorbed into it is the only way to play.

It seems we can never get rid of the Zombies who complain about any MMO because it is a MMO. It is like what is the point of getting to the God level were nothing can kill you and you one hit everything and you got to the God level by cheating the game.

If you power level thru everything in a few days, like how much fun was that actually? You lost sleep, you had to use a stimulant to stay up, the damage you do to your body is like? What is the point of living if you rush to death quickly because you want to die young? I'd rather take my time to the grave and enjoy life and gaming is a hobby so leveling up slowly is more fun.
Stop and pick the flowers, herbs, ore, wood, etc. Enjoy the quest lines that make the story flow..if the game is boring it was made that way by rushing to level-up so you can brag about what? That the game was boring?

You know what happens when you assume too much right?

You do now! But yeah, I think a lot of you are in for a rude awakening once people start getting bored. It won't be long from the way they are doing things. For whatever reason, only questing and wandering around allows you to level. Group activities and pvp certainly don't. I really don't get people who play mmos and insist everyone should solo quest. This style of mmo has a habit of tanking and going F2P a year after release. Something to keep in mind.

OPn the other hand, you get some great lore or amusing stories by qactually reading those books. While it is hard to read them in a dungeon, I have gone back and just read the books while in town. Very informative stuff in them..or I hate Orcs...they smell I hate orcs....lol

Another thing to keep in mind?

A good portion of the ESO population preordered and had Early Access. They've had over a week to reach those levels.

I'm also of the crowd that sees endgame as a reward, not a goal. I also advocate taking your time to enjoy the experience. You'll have a lot more fun if you don't stress about the numbers and just enjoy the world.
    Living vicariously through my characters.

    My Girls:
"If you were trapped in your house for, say, a year, how would you pass the time?"

Nephikah the Houseless, dunmer assassin: "I suppose I could use the break. I have a lot of business holdings now that need management."
Swum-Many-Waters, elderly argonian healer: "I think that I would enjoy writing a memoir."
Silh'ki, khajiit warrior-chef: "Would this one be able to go outside, to the nearby river? It's hard to fish without water!"
Peregrine Huntress, bosmer hunter: "Who is forcing me to stay inside, and where can I find them?"
Lorenyawe, altmer mechanist: "And why would I want to go outside in the first place? Too much to be done in the workshop."
Lorelai Magpie, breton master thief: "I'd go nuts. Lucky for me, I have a little experience sneaking out!"
Rasheda the Burning Heart, redguard knight: "I would continue my training to keep my skills sharp."
Hex-Eye Azabi, khajiit daedric priestess: "I suppose it would be lucky, then, that I built a shrine to Mephala in my backyard."
Yngva Stormhammer, nord bandit (reformed...ish): "I hate being inside even when I'm not forced to be. GET. ME. OUT."
Madam Argentia, vampire dunmer aristocrat: "I suppose it would be more of the same. I have a rather... contentious relationship with the sun."
Mazie gra-Bolga, orc scout: "Uh... I'd have to house train my bear..."
Felicia the Wanderer, imperial witch-for-hire: "What Lorelai said."
Calico Jaka-dra, retired khajiit pirate: "This one would like a rest from her grand adventures. Her jewel shop runs out of stock!"
Shimmerbeam, blind altmer psijic: "Provided that I am confined to Artaeum, I do not think I will want for things to occupy my time."
Shauna Blackfire, redguard necromancer: "Sounds like paradise. I hate people."
Kirniel the Undying, cursed bosmer warrior: "I would feel useless, not being able to fight."
Echoes-from-Dragons, argonian who thinks she's a dragon: "All the better to count my hoard!"
