Animations and Hardware Limits

Are obsolete consoles really holding back the game? I've read posts here and on reddit that new animations, etc couldn't be added due to the need to last gen console support. With necrom and the new class, we seem to have plenty of new animations... Are new weapon types now feasible to expect (from a hardware perspective).

To a certain extent. You have to realize that the new class was possible mostly because of moving some things server side and Database adjustments freeing up RAM. Consoles can't upgrade RAM at all, and when you hit that limit, there isn't much you can do about it. Keeping the game at a manageable size and asset cost is a challenge as it is with the long-term nature of MMO's.

ESO don't uses much ram, 3-4 GB is max I seen it use on pc. Granted consoles has shared memory but the recommended pc specifications is just 8 GB ram and 2 GB vram, the 8 GB also include ram used by windows.
So memory don't limit animations, if true I guess is some internal limits on client.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

Here's an interview with Matt Firor stating the technological challenges of working with the older console generations in terms of how they're limited in what they can add.
