Necrom - Pulled from the Depths achievement

How do you complete this achievement? I tried everything I can think of - I've fished for hours in Apocrypha...I've swam around various points in Apocrypha. Given that it says "pulled from", I am assuming it's a fishing thing...but that hasn't worked for me. Any thoughts?

Excellent question. I was thinking fishing as well.
Had no luck in 2 hours of fishing with fish bowl boon active. My idea was trying unusual places like a dungeon but I had only time to check one dungeon (Underweave)- no spots there.
Another idea was to try different bates in Apocrypha.

This maps shows the location. Haven't tested it myself, though.

I do not see any marker for the achievement on this map. It's not helpful. The only reference to "from the depths" is about a delve. Can you be more specific, rather than just posting your favorite ESO website?

Definitely comes from fishing. I finally got it - took me about 6 hours of fishing. However, many other players and guild members got much, much quicker.

I got it from fishing a Foul node in a lake-y Apocrypha area. It took longer than getting both green fish and the blue fish.

After further review we have decided to move this thread to a category we think is more appropriate for this topic, as it' asking the community for help.

I got both Foul node greens and the blue at my very first node in Apocrypha. I can count on one finger the only other time that has ever happened for me (at a Lake node in Glenumbra when I was working on the Master Fisher achievement.)

All the other types (Ocean, Lake, and River) took me about three hours total to catch. Thankfully, Foul was my last category.

Thanks for the insight on the "Pulled From the Depths" fish.

I finally got it after 4-5 hours of fishing all over Apocrypha. I also got 2 gold and 1 purple pattern out of folios in case anyone was wondering about the drop rate.
I had the other fould fish several times over. While it took me 2 hours to get the blue one I got that one about 10 times more while trying to get the achievement...

It is fishing, and it's completely random, can come from any fishing hole in Apocrypha. Took me a few hours to get it, but I got it a few more times after that. Just keep fishing, you'll get it.

      Got it.
I lost track of the number of nodes (had a group of four zoom in on a few of them, and those nodes fished-out fast), but I'd say it was somewhere between10-15, definitely fewer than 20, Apocrypha nodes before I landed it.

I've certainly had worse times in other zones. (but I've also had better [faster]... RNG gonna RNG.)

I'll have to say I've found some pretty interesting and amusing scenes in the new zone. A pair of baby heralds dancing together in tandem, a skeleton and a ghost in bed together.... and some NPCs fishing who got the PFTD achievement. :)

I cannot answer your question but I for one will gladly eat that food if that means I can pull out more fish/stuff in a shorter time. Fishing gets really boring after a few hours....And the more hits I have the higher the chance to get a gold recipe as a side reward.

Unfortunately, that will hinder, not help your chances to get furnishing plans. Anything that increases your chance of getting rare fish (Pickled Fish Bowl, Sharp's passive, Anger's Instincts CP passive, fishing in a group, etc.) means you will pull more green and blue vendor only fish instead of the folios, satchels, bottles, or Perfect Roe fish.

Also I would recommend slotting the Homemaker passive, so you have a chance to pull double furnishing plans from the folios. And yes, I can confirm that it works.

When I found out (earlier this morning) that you could get gold furnishing plans from fishing in Apocrypha, I made a new character, who will be exclusively devoted to the remaining fishing achievements I have in the game.*
(so I can set the CP points to include Homemaker and the two fishing passives and leave them.)

(*I've already earned the "Pulled from the Depths" achievement on my main Necrom character...)

I was kinda working against the clock this morning while setting this new character up, so I was rushing a bit and totally forgot to eat a Pickled Fish Bowl.

However... I landed in Apocrypha, and on my very first cast at the very first fishing node I came across... very first achievement on a brand new character: Pulled from the Depths.

as far as i could tell, pulled from the depths is not necessarily a "super rare" fish such as the crab-slaughter-crane in wrothgar, but just the blue rarity fish for foul fishing holes in apocrypha

so while its still a bit RNG, its not quite as rare as i initially thought it was going to be lol

10 hours of fishing, never happened once.

          Sharp
          Picked Fish
          Both CP Passives

Crawler bait, should I try roe?

Are you in Apocrypha? Doesn't work in Telvanni Peninsula.

If so, then that's just really bad RNG. Might be shooting yourself in the foot with all the rare fish passives, as the achievement may not be what it appears to be. I slotted nothing other than Reel Technique (because I wanted a better chance at Perfect Roe and the folios, not the vendor trash coin only fish), and got it within the first hour of fishing. And then about once an hour after that.

Not quite true on behalf of Sharp's passive making you get trophy fish instead of other items. Kevin said on this thread,

Hi everyone, we’d like to address the concerns raised in this thread about the Sharp’s Patience Companion Perk and clear up a few things.

For context, here’s the patch note for this perk:

“Sharp provides ‘Sharp’s Patience’ which offers an improved chance at finding trophy fish and slightly reducing reel time."

We hear your concerns about if the increase in trophy fish will result in an overall decrease in value. The short answer is no. Here are the main takeaways:
          • The appearance rate of Pyandonean Bottles, Waterlogged Psijic Satchels, and Gunny Sacks are not influenced by Sharps Patience; the overall appearance rate of these items has not changed.
          • With this perk, players can catch fish faster overall due to decreased reel time.
          • Sharp’s Patience perk does stack with the Champion Passive Reel Technique. They are calculated separately. You can benefit from both simultaneously, as well as with other fishing buffs and food such as Artaeum Pickled Fish Bowl, and fishing with friends.
          • Percent chance of catching bait (Chub, Minnow, Shad, and non-perfect fish roe) has been reduced with Sharp's passive. The increase in trophy fish is offset specifically by the reduction of these items.
We hope that helps clear up any concerns about this perk. Please let us know if you have any follow-up questions.

I'd love to know for sure how the other buffs impact folio odds, but at the very least we know Sharp's passive does not hurt it.

Strangely enough I also got the achievement, despite not ever having fished in the zone, after killing a Lurker near the water. I'm guessing someone else that was fishing pulled that creature from the depths but didn't kill it.
