How to fix Templar Backlash for PVP

I removed it from my bar again. It can be cleansed off by sets, and skills. It always warns the person I am going in.

I'd rather have a skill that can't be cleansed off and a decent damage or something that stays on my side that I can slowly build and blow it out like assassins will.

How did plaguebreaker work? Cleanse it and it damages you?

I never really paid attention to this but does the templar light still damage them when it's cleansed? I always suspected that it did not. Every time they cleanse their health never moved but I don't know if they burst healed or something. I felt like I was wasting my time trying to build it up...just for no damage to happen.

I would really like for it upon cleansing to do the damage we already put into it. If they don't cleanse it then we go up to the max amount of damage. The counterplay should be stopping us from going up to max damage when they cleanse. Not stopping all damage outright. It should pop with the damage already placed into it upon cleansing. (I want to add in or cloaking and going into stealth)

No harm is done on PVE side because NPCs usually can't cleanse. The light can only be placed on one person at a time and everyone can't contribute into the damage. So in group play, the person lit still has ways to get help from their buddies.

Now let's hear the counter arguments.

EDIT: Someone in the comments said that it does do damage when it's cleansed. I have to go check but if that's the case then we do this.
Let us put backlash on them and fill a gauge up on our characters while the backlash is on. Then when we apply the light when it is full charged, a full damage one pops instantly. A backlash...if you will.

EDIT2: Confirmed currently that on cleanse it does it does NOT do damage. Meaning the damage placed into it does NOT apply to them upon cleanse.

Why not just apply it again after enemy cleansed it?

Im pretty certain that the damage you put into it still damages them when its cleansed, but especially the last patches the damage has been so low even when it fully went through that you probably barely noticed it when you did not get the full damage.
Why not just apply it again after enemy cleansed it?

Because you need to start damaging them from the start again and because you cant just go full offensive another 6 seconds after already having spent time before to get a decent burst off.

You sure that's not the initial damage they take when it's applied? I asked somebody in a duel if it took damage from them after it cleansed, they said no. If it does do damage and the person cleansing it doesn't even notice it after throwing in an ulti, and some heavy hits, that's a problem. What did it absorb?

I'll go check real quick. I should be back in an hour or two.

However, before I go check it, another way to fix this is by letting us put backlash on them and fill a gauge up while the backlash is on. Then when we apply the light when it is full charged, a full damage one pops instantly.

Reapplying Backlash early (including now switching targets, since there can only be one at a time) or having it cleansed means the final explosion doesn’t happen. It does make a visual and audio explosion when something dies early with it, but that is very misleading as it doesn’t do damage in that case either.

At least that’s the way it’s been for years. If they changed it, they missed a huge patch note there.

The skill is still horrible. I've already removed it from my bar for PvP. Sub-par damage and too easy to counter.

Agreed - skill is horrible - nobody uses it.

IMO the worst part is that it is totally telegraphed by huge lantern over your head - when you see it, you go full defensive or cleanse. It's just way too easy to counter. It needs total rework.

I liked POTL on my PvP stamplar and was fine re-applying it, but it hits like a wet noodle now when it used to be good. Quit playing that toon just because of that.
