Velothi Ur-Mage’s Amulet

I want to know what people think on this mythic and whether it will actually be useful for players that have fine motor mobility issues. If this is its intended purpose, would it not be better if it targeted DoT’s rather than all skills to limit the amount of key inputs while allowing such players to compete?

Perhaps something like this to help its intended role:

Increases the damage of your Single Target Damage over time effects by 30% and your AoE Damage over time effects by 70%. This effect is reduced by half vs enemy players. Reduces the damage of you Light, Heavy and Direct damage abilities by 99%.

This way you get good value out of the mythic allowing it to help players that struggle with repeated button pressing, and not having it being almost worthless for such players as it currently is.

Thoughts?

It's arguably an Arcanist mythic first and foremost and may well be a meta option for that class. See around the 11 minute mark in Skinny Cheek's evaluation:

PC EU: Magblade (PvP main), DK (PvE Tank), Sorc (PvP and PvE), Magden (PvE Healer), Magplar (PvP and PvE DD), Arcanist (PvE DD)
PC NA: Magblade (PvP and PvE every role)

Yeah I can see it being pretty nuts on that class in particular. But my question raises another one I had not considered. Should accessibility be tied to mythic items or a setting in options that is available from the get go?

If it was released with Necrom it will pretty much only be released with Archanist in mind. For all other classes stay with what you had.

What you suggest the mythic does is similar what Cruel Flurry does, although adds to AoE DoTs. However, what you suggest hinders those that like to spam their big damage skills as those are normally direct damage
Add a Scribing skill that works like Arcanist beam.
    ---
Veteran players have been alienated and disengaged from Overland since One Tamriel, due to the lack of difficulty, and pushed into dungeons and trials; the minority of content in the Elder Scrolls Online. We can't take the repetition anymore, fix Overland engagement for Vet players. I don't even care if it's not combat related anymore, just make Overland engaging again.
    ---
Overland difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 10 years. 6 paid expansions. 25 DLCs. 41 game changing updates including One Tamriel, an overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver & Gold as a "you think you do but you don't" - tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game. I'm bored of dungeons, I'm bored of trials; make a personal difficulty slider for overland. Make a self debuff mythic. Literally anything at this point.

Does it though? No one is forced to wear the mythic.

Not necessarily. You could easily run a Fatecarver-centric build with AOEs and DOTs instead of direct damage

I am finding it useful so far on my Sorc.

Definite damage increase in fights where weaving isn't great, especially fights that have lots of adds. Got the exact same parses as without it on a Trial Dummy. Slight increase on a 3M dummy in DPS with it. Definitely don't feel the loss of light attack damage, and it makes it less impactful to miss weaves or skip weaving altogether depending on the situation.

Many of the Arcanist skills seem so clunky when weaving light attacks between them, now with the amulet I’ll only light attack right before casting the beam to generate ultimate, and every skill in between fires off so much faster when I have zero concern about landing any of those light attacks. DPS with sparse light attacking is slightly improved over my best attempts at pure light attack weaving when I play the beam build (with or without the velothi amulet), and my wrist feels better, too.

A really long channel skill certainly helps, there’s less time spent messing up or light attacking anyway. Too bad the amulet won’t work out so well for any of my other classes. Nightblade seems doomed to be the carpal tunnel class

No thanks, I'll stick with my one-bar Oakensoul build for my Arcanist. I have all my buffs and don't need to constantly swap bars for what Oakensoul gives me without effort.

I know on PTS, Deltia compared the two rings (and this was PRE-nerf of Velothi) and he ran a vet dungeon with both rings and he finished the dungeon only 9/s faster with Velothi's... and again, that was pre-nerf.

Which IMO demonstrated exactly what I'm saying... you can play a sweaty build with bar swapping to generate buffs, or you can play a relaxed build with Oakensoul and achieve the same results.

Honestly, I'm going to try it on a magdk. I know it will be strong on Arcanist, but I think it will also be strong on a Magdk. Pair this with deadly strike + mother's sorrow and you'll have 30% extra damage for your DoT's. And a DK can afford to lose its light/heavy attacks if you substitute your chain pull as a light attack. It basically becomes free damage if you can't pull the target because the cost would be refunded.

If anything, it should get more damage, since we are having a kiss/curse mechanic, that ultimately cancels itself out and we do only get minor force and maybe a little penetration in addition.

I think the Velothi Ur could do with 20% against Monsters, instead of the 15% we have now. Or a couple of named buffs instead of the flat damage altogether. Major Berserk, Courage and Slayer would be awesome and make it viable for PvP, too. Well, not the Slayer, but you know... ;)
If anyone here says: OH! But, PVP! I swear I'll ...

Thank you for the valuable input and respectfully recommend to discuss that aspect of ESO on the PVP forum.

I personally would like something pushing towards a different play style altogether. What about this?

Increases the damage of your ground DoTs and status effects by 70% and all other DoTs by 20%, but reduces your Light and Heavy attack damage by 99% and all other sources of damage by 50%.

I just don’t see how other classes can really benefit from it in its current state.

this mythic basically just makes it so that weaving becomes less important

regardless of which class your using, your dmg will mostly be the same but weaving becomes less important (you still have to do it a little bit to keep up passive ult gen)

its more made for classes like templar and arcanist which have longer duration channeled beams where you cant light attack at all for multiple GCD, but if you use it on other classes, you will have little to no change in dmg output (except maybe on trash mobs where your spamming aoe skills instead of weaving anyway)

the suggested changes would remove any use of the mythic, i mean buffing dots and status effects but -50% direct dmg? that would destroy any builds dmg to the point of being a useless mythic

I may not get this amulet anytime soon, but I get it's another mythic that appeases those who are tired of bar swapping or (in this case) weaving in order to do the most damage. I use oakensoul and definitely support these mythics. I do wish that if enough players use these that the developers swap what the mythics do:

    • Wearing oakensoul gives you a 2nd bar to barswap.
    • Only 1 weapon and 5 abilities as standard.

Then bar swapping can be buffed again for players that actually want to punish themselves with extra slots and rotations. Idc what other people do, but I want normal slots, competitive stats (even 70% of what oakensoul has currently) so I can wear the gear combos I enjoy for the themes/visuals. A lot of sets are not BiS, I know, but many are horrible for most content and yet have wonderful effects that could be so much more.

(1 item) Adds 1650 Offensive Penetration, Increase your damage done to monsters by 15%, gain Minor Force at all times, increasing your Critical Damage done by 10%, and reduce your Light and Heavy Attack damage by 99%.

yes it works specifically against monsters. and it would work in no cp as it doesn't do anything like spawn crows around you like the Unfathomable Darkness set.
