I've never encountered a situation where addons needed to be straight up deleted after an update... though I don't use a ton of them so I can't say for sure. I'm sure someone with more addon knowledge will chime in.

In any case of a malfunctioning addon that I've encountered (and it does tend to happen after a big patch), I've been able to at least make it to character select and they can be disabled from there if necessary.

You'll be fine with not deleting any addons. If addons throw errors because they weren't updated during PTS, just disable them until they update.

Deleting is never necessary. I'd disable the addons in the character screen or in-game instead. But to answer your question:
It would depend on what the addons do. Some addons like dressing room are ancient, but still work fine. Others like harvestmap may require an update before working in the new zone.

If you want to be 100% safe, disable everything and enable them one at the time and see which ones work and which do not.

Do you have to disable them all? nah. usually when an addons goes wrong, you'll get an error message that indicates what addons are messed up and you can disable just that one. If you don't understand the error messages (which is nothing to be ashamed of), you can always disable them all and test them out one by one. But in my experience, most of the time you won't have to.

Bug Eater addon will prevent errors from flooding your screen.

    Greetings,

After further review we have decided to move this thread to a category we think is more appropriate for this topic, as it's asking about addons.

    Thank you for your understanding

Well.. yes it would. Problem is, troubleshooting your addons gets a tad annoying without these messages. Having to try every feature every addons offers by hand in at least 2 different zones can be a bit frustrating.

I just log in as normal and wait to see what happens.

If an addon is causing annoying problems I'll disable it until it's fixed, or if it's a big addon and I can find info on which specific feature is causing the problem I might just turn that off.

But most of the time it's fine, even if the addon shows as being out of date. Each addon has a version number and if that doesn't match the game's current version it'll say it's out of date but that doesn't mean it won't work or will cause problems, that depends on what specifically was changed and if it affects the addon. I've got some which have been out of date and unsupported for years but still work.

The only time I've deleted an addon after an update is when the same functionality is added to the base game. But even then there will be a period when I try out both to see which I prefer. I deleted the addons I had for subtitles and inventory sub-categories because the in-game version is good enough (although with the subtitles that's only because I have an addon which lets me resize and move them) but I kept the buff tracking one because I prefer the way the addon does it to the very limited option in the base game.

Doing this via Bugeater will prevent the errors to show and thus to be fixed by us devs! It's annoying if you enable such addon error message blockers... I can understand that errors might be not wanted but why don't you just Disable the addons then for a few days and wait for updates instead of disable the error messages which will make the addons fail to work and you do not even notice it properly, nor report it to us :-( This simply is annoying and does not help. Either disable the addons single that failt o work, or all (after major patches I recommand to play a few days without all addons or at least omly enable the ones that got officially updated. You can easily use the checkbox at the top left of the addon manager to disable all addons at once).

If you get errors, head over to www.esoui.com, find the addon, and psot the error and info how to rebuild it at the comments of the addons. That HELPS!

Yeah, you should not need to delete anything. However if you do run into issues, the first thing you should look into is disabling addons to see if any of them are causing issues.

i make sure all addons are up to date that are available, and log in as normal

if there are UI errors then i disable the offending addon (in most cases the addon name is usually in the error message because it contains a file path in the error text of where the error occurred)

if the broken addon doesnt get fixed say within a few weeks (or ever) then ill just delete that one addon

i do have some addons that havent been updated since 2015 that still work because of how small/simple they are lol

If you want something to do that, then I'd suggest you rather using BugCatcher. This also prevents errors from flooding the screen, however, errors are caught rather than blocked so you can pass them on to developers to fix.

From an addon devs perspective with many years of experience in ESO addons:
    Please no!
Just stop using those addons and report the errors or they get never fixed! Such addons like BugCatcher, BugHider, BugAway or whatever are just nonsense.
Disable the addons if they throw errors or report the bugs to have them fixed. That's all magic you need.
Collecting the errors and seding in later does neither help us as we need to know WHEN exactly the error happend and what your ther active addons were at that special time! Just sending in a lua error is not enough as you can read here in details:
    https://www.esoui.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8858
-> "lua error messages ingame - How do I read them?"
-> "How to report a lua error message to the developers"

There is no reason to run such bug hider/ctacher addons except if you are lazy and think a broken addon should be used, at best within trials.. :-) *Irony off

It's vey rare for it to be a problem. No noticable issues this quarter.
