Stumbled upon this post on Chinese social media and wanted to share it with the English speaking community so I translated it.
Disclaimer: I am not the owner of the post, im only sharing this because i find it interesting as I can sympathize as someone who lives in Australia and shares the same problem and experience. Here's the link to the original post https://tieba.baidu.com/p/8427051002?share=9105&fr=sharewise&see_lz=0&share_from=post&sfc=copy&client_type=2&client_version=12.40.1.1&st=1685816848&is_video=false&unique=3E5767B68E4058528D9394DEE3468319

"Title: About the impact of having 250+ ping on PVP!
I have played this game for several years, from 160 cp at the start to having 2000 cp now, I have always pvp'ed. I'm not good at pve, I've never completed a vet trial, and the only times I do dungeons is to farm gears for pvp, I mostly play in grayhost and blackreach.
I want to talk about the impact of 250+ ping has on your pvp experience in this game, to summarize: unbelievably big! you can't imagine it! and yes you can quote me on that.
How big specifically? I dont know, a three-story building big?
I dare say in China, at the same ping and lag, I can 1v1 anyone and no one is my match, i'm not ashamed to say that I run meta gears and play strong classes. But in grayhost, when I fight foreigners that have much better ping, I get humbled. I just go to a corner and watch them cap the flag. Because in a 1v1 i will get flattened within a minute.
I can't heal, and I constantly feel like my opponent is cheating, my attacks dont ever hit, my dawnbreaker misses 80% of the time, or my skill animations will play but they won't go off. Sometimes I'm stunned or rooted and I can break free for days. The most frustrating is when I play nightblade, my incap and dagger combo can never hit, but when other people hit me with that, i lose half of my health.
Animation canceling seems so easy when I watch them, same with roll dodging, but when i do these things it takes forever to go off. Often times I'll roll dodge and get hit by a leap and ill be rolling in the air like an idiot then get whipped to dust, or get killer's blade executed when im roll dodging, i don't know how the server figures that.
So I want to tell people who are thinking about getting into the game, please be careful and think it through! at least pvp, it's not something easy to get into. Please leave comments if you share the same experience as me."

Some of the comments are also funny, if you're interesting you can just view the page with google auto translate or something.
I wanted to make this post because as someone who also plays at 250 ping, sometimes 300 in grayhost, i strongly strongly and cannot agree more that ping is such a huge hit to pvp experience. I can't believe i want to say this, but you North Americans and Europeans get it good, i wish i had your performance.
I have asked for an Asia server in the past, or even an OCE server, ZOS will probably never do it.
But looking at this post, what's the point of adding more language translations to the game and expanding into different markets if you aren't going to make a local server ZOS? it was my understanding that Microsoft daddy had a lot of money and they own like a lot of cloud servers?

Not everyone in NA or EU gets good ping just for the record. I regularly have a ping in the 300+ range and I'm in the northeastern US. And for me it feels exactly like what the person described.

I don't think it is a ping issue.

Cyro is "internally" broken since they had to move client code to the server to avoid exploits using 3rd party clients, like "meteor-showers" or "jetpacks".

The challenge since then is to match your builds to deal with the abnorm internal lag. Avoid dual bar builds, as barswap is broken. Use sets that heal you under certain circumstances, like formerly crimson oath, now maras balm.

The server upgrades temporarily made it better, so it was really cool to play a "normal" 2 bar build during whitestreak mayhem on xbox NA from europe (while EU still required the "lag setups"). But you cannot count on that it works, as according to ZoS these issues just can be solved with the server code rewrites they will roll out in smaller portions starting this year.

Ping from Australia to any US or European based server is always an issue, regardless of what you are doing. However, I'll admit that no game kicks me out of play more than ESO does.

That doesn't mean there aren't fundamental problems with PVP in ESO, it just means that even if the server worked perfectly, we'd still have an issue down here.
    Australian on PS4 NA server.

Meanwhile, I live in the US southwest desert. I'm not all that far from the NA servers. The only connection I have is satellite, and my ping is 750+ ms. So yeah - not all of us in the US have anything close to "real broadband".

That doesn't mean I'm not sympathetic - I am. What it DOES mean is that I doubt ZOS has any interest in coming up with solutions for any of us who have that sort of ping. Or even those with much lower ping than mine.

Caveat: I have ZERO interest in pvp. i just want to manage quest boss kills without dying a dozen times.... *sigh*

I play with 60-120 ping in NA, and it feels like heals and barswaps and potions sometimes just have a mind of their own. It makes me wonder how people can run sub-30k health builds or run Blood for Blood! I know build and skill play a part of course, it just also seems more reactive and snappy than I can be consistently

I am sure if there are enough players in Asia that play ESO they will set up Asian servers. I play from Singapore. And i have met just handful of other Asian players on US servers and i am playing since launch.

They added Chinese language last year and I've definitely seen more Chinese people talking in zone chat, maybe over time there'll be more Asian players trying the game, Aussies would benefit from a server in Asia too, I pvp and I know a lot of Japanese and Chinese players, but the Aussies I talk to usually say they only pve because pvp is just too laggy for them

Would it be impossible to have just a cyro campaign on a server in oceania/Asia tied to the NA server? Or is that pipedream stuff?

honestly i would love that, since pve is manageable at 200 ping and pvp is the problem, i doubt they'd do it tho

my normal ping is around 85-105 for "minimal lag"

i start to notice lag when im at around 125-140 ping (which is sometimes the minimum i see when playing in cyro grey host)

when the game starts to sit like 250-350 ping, the game feels virtually unplayable to me (only ever really see this in grey host), when the ping is this high, skills with cast times never go off (snipe), and fighting in melee range is a death sentence because none of my skills go off or will even hit the target

im currently only on high speed dsl (with 50 mb bandwith), but in the near future ill be upgrading to fiber cable so hopefully that will help improve things (though i doubt it will change cyro at all)

In any player v player game ping, not skill, is and always has been the biggest determinant of winner.

yup exactly, grayhost obviously has its own problems, but even if ESO pvp is perfect, 250+ ping will still mean frequent packet loss, aka skills not responding
that's why all the Aussies I talk to tell me they don't bother doing pvp, it's unplayable

my problem with zos is how they are backed by Microsoft and can't build an Asia server
