I love the new class but the Arcanist class can cause serious health issues.

I love the new arcanist class, unfortunately its main mechanic can cause serious health issues. It's about the "cruxes" spinning in a circle.

Some people, myself included, may experience discomfort, headaches, imbalances, or dizzines when they see objects moving steadily around a regular circle, what cruxes exactly do. This is due to congenital predispositions associated with disorders in the labyrinth of the ear.

Therefore, on behalf of myself and other players with such a problem, I kindly ask to create some kind of an option to disable the graphic effect of cruxes mechanic around the players character - maybe some tracking option in the form of buffs above the skill bar instead or sth else.

P.S. I would love to seriously play this, but the above issue prevents me from doing so.
The exactly same issue has shaman class in WoW and probably many other classes in mmos.

That’s pretty interesting because my husband tried playing one in the PTS and says it makes him feel motion sickness. He has never complained about motion sickness before, so I don’t think he is pre-disposed to it, but he says it’s bad enough with the arcanist that he’s not planning to order the expansion.

I haven’t tried it much myself. I briefly tried a baby arcanist on the PTS, but didn’t end up leveling her so I didn’t see most of the skills. But this is worrisome.

I don't have any health issues but the visuals are super annoying and are too bright. Hard pass for me. I'm not sure if I could even tank a dungeon or trial with several Arcanists on my screen.

Well this is all very concerning... and kinda fascinating too, appreciate everyone bringing it up.

I usually don't get motion sick these days, but every now and then something in a game will trigger it for me (might not solely be the game, could be a combo of that and things IRL too).

Either way, I think I'm going to have to jump on the PTS and test this out for myself.

Honestly,I've found sometimes that gaming with 60 fps on my 55" 4K TV gives me motion sickness, at least until I've played a few hours and my eyes/brain adjust to it. Seems that 30 fps doesn't cause this problem. However, as I said, it DOES go away after playing for awhile- although short breaks while playing is advised.

I experienced discomfort from the high brightness of the arcanist skills, but I was relieved by using shaders that slightly reduce the brightness and color intensity, and I agree that there must be some adjustments, or warnings about this.

That's interesting, seems there's now two things about the arcanist that's an health issue for some people.

I've some picky light sensitivities, as in I'm fine with a lot of things, but some specific lights causes me headaches and pain in the eyes. Several of the Arcanists spells fit that bill. So it's not going to be fun for me when the chapter releases and there's going to be arcanists everywhere.
I know I'm not alone with this either, a lot of people has worse light sensitivities than me, and I've seen comments and talked to others who doesn't even have any sensory issues who find the bright arcanist abilities unpleasant.

Are these things always circling the character? If so that will be a huge deal breaker for me. I am picturing Arcanists with their circling lights standing next to Sorcerers with their flapping pets and I just want to run and hide.

The circling things are a resource some Arcanist skills generate and other skills use. So those do circle around character doing content with combat but not neccessarily while doing writs or picking flowers. Anyway I find that and arcanist visuals in general painful to watch. Not quite as bad as sorc overload bugging in Eldan Root dungeon every time until I stopped using overload - bright crackling lightning constantly shooting out of character until one exits dungeon - but still headache inducing.

yeah I feel like they could just add a small number counter on the ability boxes that use crux (like grim focus and spectral arrow).

I have issues with sudden changes in light and sound. I regularly get issues in dungeons and trials. Not sure how arcanists will affect that, have to wait and see until live.

Sadly, they are always circling until you spend them. I'm not sure about re-zoning, but I know they are still visible while on a mount. I've actually slotted a shield crux spender just so I can use them up after combat so I don't have to see the constant crux swirling around my character. It was noted MANY times in the Arcanist thread about people wanting some way to turn them off (apparently it's especially bad in 1st person view) but so far ZOS has not listened. It's basically like Warden's Fetcher Infection, where if you don't spend the second cast, the animation remains on your character's hands until you do use it.

They should make it like Nightblade's Grim Focus, in which the animation disappears but the number of attacks you've accumulated stay available to use once you enter combat again.

I don't have any health issues, but especially the beams seems a bit too bright. I agree on adding an indicator on for example health bar to see how many crux you have.

Well, motion sickness was a mild problem for me some decades ago. (As long as I didn't read in a moving car, I was fine.)

But otherwise -- what my lovely wife said. I'm not going to consider making an arcanist until there's a way to turn off the orbiting crux tokens.

This is bad news. It reminds me of something in WoW a few years back with Mages having red balls constantly circling them. They had so much negative feedback that they gave a toggle to turn these off. I hope they do the same here.

Things like this are just too much and it causes sensory overload. Less is more.

You don't even have to be the one playing it, you're going to see them all over the place from PvP, group dungeons, trials, even in the open world and have to deal with the spinny crux and green/yellow lights flashing everywhere!! I'm curious how they are going to handle it if a large number of players drop out of playing the game because of motion sickness or nausea from seeing the new class in action.

There was an archer class in Riders of Icarus that had a similar system where something like "crux" had to be gained in order to enhance the damage of certain skills. They had a very eloquent solution to issues like this, which was simply to provide the player with a new section of UI where the gain of the "Crux"-like power was displayed above the healthbar as three empty circles that filled with color when the "crux" had been acquired.

I feel something like this might be helpful. I myself find the crux circling to be visually straining due to the intensity of the color, although I don't have the same problem you do with your inner ear. My sympathies regarding that- motion sickness and dizzyness is a nightmare.

This very thing actually occurred to me when I was playing around with it on the PTS and I vaguely remembered this was the basis for why Inner Light was reworked from an always on toggle spell to a short cast timer, due to the many complaints of spinning lights around characters at crafting areas and banks.

Does the same dizziness not occur though with Ebon, Worm Cult, and Savior armor sets though?

The one thing that bothers me about this solution in a game like ESO where foot placement is important in many vet dungeons, is that would draw your eyes from the fight down to your hot bar.

If I could have an option like that I'd buy the chapter and make at least one arcanist character.

Other players' flashes are unlikely to be an issue for me. It's the repetitive motion that's a problem. (I also don't use flying pets with flapping wings, even though I think the firey dragon -- the previously morphable one -- is the most beautiful pet in the game.)

Hmm. This is concerning. Since vertigo is an ongoing problem for me (and getting worse the older I am), I might wind up with Arcanists who don't use whatever abilities produce crux at all - kind of like my Oak 1 bar + a couple of abilities and weapon spammables characters.

I play on XBox so I haven't seen this yet. However, remember the healer set that came out a few years ago that was a spinning orange circle? I(Can't remember what it was, sorry.) I had the same problem then. Thanks for explaining why it typically happens though mine may be head injury related.

They did change the armor after I sent the feedback so I imagine I was not the only player with the issue.

It could also cause seizures in group content too.

I don't have epilepsy(i think thats what its called)so all the flashy abilities only annoy me but just imagine how bad Battlegrounds will be when Arcanist comes out with its blaster bolt being shot everywhere.

I have a little trepidation reading all of this. I have extreme photosensitivity (my retinas are highly reactive) that gives me terrible headaches and renders me practically blind just going outside on a sunny day. I've been complaining about a lot of the bright flashes in this game for years. Hopefully this isn't something that's going to cause problems because I really want to try the class.

This may work, and it may work the other way. There are games I permanently ruined for myself, after trying to push through it with morning sickness, or head-bobbing induced motion sickness. Years later, just looking at screenshots triggers nausea.

I've trimmed down my ESO build to be as clean as possible but there are some effects from other players that can trigger nausea or headaches. Mostly it's the flying pets but some of the spell effects are still bad.

I think that in any game nowadays one should be able to turn down the brightness of spell effects (one's own and others) and toggle off things that orbit, bobble, blink etc. but it definitely seems like it's going in the other direction with the amount of loud and blinking mount effects. And the way the summoned pets blink in and out of existence around crafting bench areas.

There was one particular mount that used to create a very large red flash all over the screen in Rawl'kha, and when the player using that mount was online mounting and dismounting between stations I had to just log off and leave things till later.
