Locked into crafting menu after guard dialogue

I was doing daily writs in Stormhold, Shadowfen, specifically the woodworking writ. I accidentally clicked the safe box when going to the woodworker station, but immediately backed out. A bounty was added, and a guard ran up to me, but I had already activated the woodworking station before the guard could question me. When I tried to back out of the woodworking station to speak to the guard, the game treated it like I had backed out of the guard dialogue and initiated combat. My screen was stuck in the woodworking menu while I was being attacked and I could do nothing but bash and roll until I died. After I died, my screen was still stuck in the woodworking menu (I could not back out again, and I had no obvious recourse), and I could not resurrect myself. I had to force close the game to resolve the issue.

I could not submit a bug report in game for obvious reasons.

Windows 10, Steam install, fully patched and updated.

Edit for additional detail: I play using controller UI, and have no add ons that touch crafting in any way.
